They got a Walmart in Dunlap or you gotta clear the next hill to Soddy D?
Yeah, going on 25 years come November.

We also have I think it's 7 Dollar General's in the county but that could of changed since yesterday?

I tried whataburger just recently down next to Amelia Island and I thought it was just really not interesting. I could not imagine why they had any sort of reputation. I could eat it, but I would never tell somebody "oh this was good". It was just food.

I only know of the one in Spencer. And the subway and save a lot. Plus the gas station food. You guys up there really only got the speed traps going for ya.

The one on 200 in Yulee? Hopefully their service time has improved over the past 10+ years. I ate at that one, once, when I lived in the area. If you're wanting a great burger, not far from there, Tasty's is good (they have another location in downtown FB too). T-Ray's on 8th makes a good burger but I always go for the fried shrimp.

I don't live in Van Buren and yeah if Spencer would raise the speed limit through town it would be nice quick trip to and from Sparta/Cookeville.

Just like most places, when you expand, the product usually isn't as good. Additionally, the market is now full of these kinds of locations.

I was born in Texas, and Whataburger had a fantastic reputation with good food back in the 80's and 90's. Now, I would agree that it's just another hamburger on the market.

We drive from Nashville down I-65 to FL. There is a Whataburger in northern AL. Hardly ever see anyone there. Perhaps with the new advertising that has changed?

I never had Whataburger before they got big, but they probably just haven't managed the growth that well. Chick-fil-A has way more locations and employees than Whataburger and I haven't noticed a decline in quality over time with them at all. Now with private equity involved, I'm sure it'll get even worse.

They still seem to have a very devoted following despite that. I've eaten it a few times and fail to see what is so special about it. The last couple of times I have eaten there, the service in particular was bad. The food wasn't bad, and I would eat it again, but it has a borderline Chick-fil-A or In-N-Out level of devotion and I'm not sure why.

That’s fair to say about Chick Fil A, although if their model is indeed what I’ve been told, then that is one reason why. I’ve been told that you can only own one CFA franchise and they require you to have some type of business knowledge or experience. When you just have one, that’s all you need to focus on. While the CFA product is fairly consistent across franchises, I’ve certainly seen the service lacking at some over time.

Whataburger was known for having a really good hamburger and fries. Their ketchup became popular, too, as they now advertise it as spicy ketchup. I don’t recall that back then. But, again, the market wasn’t saturated like it is now. There were only 5 locations for Five Guys in 2001 until they started franchising. While In N Out is old, they didn’t leave the west coast until around 2010. They were only in Cali until 1992. Shake Shak wasn’t founded until 2004. Culver’s didn’t start expanding until well into the 2000’s. IMO, Whataburger was better than McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s.

The locations that have been franchised in Memphis from the new expansion company have not been the same quality and service for sure.

The ones I’ve eaten at in Texas and in Destin have been much better.

So, am I the only one voting for Burgersmith? I guess I just love the ease of creatively customizing my burger. Plus, they have a range of beers.

For fries I'll have McDonalds.

Chick-Fil-A is just good quality food, with a commitment to keep that and there service in tact. People support their closed on Sunday stance because they provide quality at a level no else seems to duplicate. I'm OK with having only 6 out of 7 days to choose from for their chicken sandwich. It hasn't ruined my life.

Our local Zaxby's has tried to imitate CFA's in line serice & ordering. But, with a curbed wrap around drive through that locks you in line it's a farce and laughable.

I really can't see anyone beating out a Fuddrucker's, except they are cleary a sit down retaurant. I'm assuming they still thrive, but the closest to us is probably in Nashville. We had one readily available to us in Anderson, SC when we lived in NE Ga. Haven't been to one in many years. I think my first taste was in Abilene, TX in the 80's. I was keen on seeing the sides of beef in the glass wall cooler at the entry. Knew my burger was ground fresh. And for the foodie, you could get Ostrich, or turkey for the wuss. The burger fixings bar is still unequaled. I think every Fuddrucker's I ever ate had the melted chedder and chili on it. I can't recall the type bun it was, except being buttered, toasted, and able to stand up to however you dressed it at the bar.

There’s a couple Fuds in Greenville and I know there’s one in Spartanburg. We ate there about 2 years ago. We usually hit up 5 guys for a burger or if we want to do closer we do Wayback, not as good as 5 guys. Whataburger been popping up all over the upstate but I have yet to try it. It looks like a Culver’s burger to me and I’ve only went there once.

Having only one CFA still can build extreme wealth for hte franchisee. The daily sales are extreme.

There is a 2nd CFA in the food court at TnTech. A wee bit more expensive, as the drink is not included in the Combo at the university. But in counter sales comparisons, they beat the socks off the fracnhise location. The franchise location only wins when factoring in drive through sales. In counter sales, both locations exceed $12,000 a day on average. With the drive thru, the franchise store easily double that. Other brands have tried to imitate CFA's new drive thru model, and no one can pull it off.

I've recently figured out the McD's seems to have remarketed the Quarter as made fresh to order. So now, everytime I have stopped and ordered one, I have to pull into the parking spot and wait. Which defeats the purpose of hitting a McD. Only reason I do is that I can eat that mess free in the car. I don't choose McD often and when I do, it's typically for a #2 breakfast. So, if I do use the drive thru for a burger, it's out of convenience and not so I have to wait in a parking space.

Unless 5 Guys quality has declined, I'd say they are the hunted in the gourmet fast(er) burger market. I always thought they were at the top other than Fuddrucker's. I quit 5 Guys when it started costing me almost $20 for one person. I've been in Cookeville for 11 years now, and only been the the 5Guys once, maybe twice because of costs.

It’s definitely not cheap but they aren’t stingy with the fries.
