Could the whole Ellarbee not 'connecting' with kids maybe be related to him maybe not promising guys they will start at LT? From my understanding, the big deal with Heard, and the reason he left LSU, is he wants to start at LT. We have 'openings' at LG and RT...Seems it was maybe also an issue with Mincey. We have a returning LT. Hear me out now, I know logic sucks but...

Idk? I think this may be more of an issue of having a couple lost classes. When Pruitt was fired it was a dumpster fire, stink was still on the staff the first year Heupel was here. We didn’t bust through and become a contender for elite players esp olinemen till the year we made a run and got ranked 1 for a short time. I think 1)those Oline positions are probably the most sought after and heavily contentious recruitments 2)those guys usually have long standing relationships with the staffs recruiting them and 3)once signed most kids aren’t contributing till year 2 or more likely 3 after a few years in S&C.

I think AP possibly Hubbs also pointed out Abeln struggles at landing the TE position; I may entirely be attributing this to the wrong person also as there are so many I follow on it. Shortly after we land the #1 TE in the portal, now have a 4 star TE committed early in this class. Maybe just maybe the stink is starting to fade from the dumpster fire we’ve had for the last couple of decades moreso than CGE not being able to connect with kids?

This would be a big get but one player doesn’t fix our OL recruiting either. He needs to stack another class like this last one and we need to see some of his evals pan out, before I totally turn the page on him. I believe in him as a coach but the recruiting is still questionable. Heard goes a long way to solidifying our OL in 2025 though which is huge.

He’s not as charismatic as a lot of P5 coaches tend to be, that’s clear to anyone who’s met him. I do think he’s a good fundamentalist and can coach to Hueps system.

Fingers crossed we land some impact plug and play transfers to buy time to develop 24 signees.

Just an appreciation post for SF, MV, and MP for coming in here dropping your information and setting VN back on its axis (or at least closer to its axis). Things got really weird and really negative the last couple of days.

I also appreciate those that put their VN reputation on the line to bring information they have to us and hate the way you get treated by some when things don’t pan out the way you thought they would. I have a feeling most of those people weren’t real RF people.

You’re like Charlie Brown on Adderall. Words like “aggressive” are just nonsense terms. We talk to players immediately upon them being available. We interview their HS and current coaches within a day of portal entry. We pay competitively and have a very high hit rate on portal players. What sort of extra “aggression” would you like? We also have an OL coach who has done more with less. Judge the completed OL when we have one. We don’t yet.

We need to be tampering before they enter the portal. Win at all cost.

My point was I think people want our coaches to do the same things they hate on Jones and Pruitt for doing... promising kids things they know aren't true to get them to sign. If Heard is telling them if i sign here you have to make me your starting LT.. as a staff im ok if they say we can't make you that promise. We have a guy you'd have to beat him out. What happens if they make this guy that promises then Campbell is like ya know what I'm going transfer now. I am ok with us losing out on guys because we are NOT slimy.
