‘23 LSU transfer OT Zalance Heard (Tennessee)

Kiffin has a real shot next year. Very friendly schedule and a proven, senior to be QB with weapons on the perimeter. He sees the holes on his roster and is taking steps to solidify things. Kiffin is going for gold in '24.
They paid McDonald to be a stater in their secondary, that’s more like going for bronze

I guess not set in stone, but under current rules he would have to sit out a year if he did vs. 1 free transfer always a possibility for someone like Seaton.

Unless they’ve changed it recently, can’t keep up anymore.
The NCAA tried to limit multiple transfers and force sitting out, but they were taken to court. Unlimited transfers/free agency is a near certainty IMO. It's going to be a year to year thing with some making the portal an annual event in their careers. Since a very small portion of college players make the NFL and get those huge contracts, most will now focus on NIL and the portal to make as much as they can during their "peak" earning years playing "college" football. New day, new game.

Ppl forget Hyatt wasn’t good till his Junior year, sometimes it takes 3 years for the light switch to turn on for players
While that's true, it's not always the case. Plus this is the portal era. Different landscape. Finally and perhaps most importantly, our window with a talent like Nico is most likely just 2 short years. Can you afford to wait and hope guys like Webb and Nimrod "develop" into players by their junior year? You get a guy like Nico and the time is now. Hate saying that since it's something that turns my old stomach, but it is the new reality.

Which ones are crappy? Bru (made all sec last year)? Squirrel (better numbers that Evan stewart)? Brazell (freshman all American)? Thornton (just coming on when he got hurt)?

Or are you just pretending to be a redneck with that comment?
Thorton was a massive disappointment. Squirrel is good but really small. Bru doesnt have top end speed. But im talking about the WR room as a whole. You guys keep bringing up the starters but forget the MASSIVE drop off when they get hurt. You can blame “development” all you want. These WRs have struggled getting off man to man. They have ran the wrong routes multiple times throughout the season. They have dropped more balls than i would like to count. Most of VN is excited about our WR room this coming season. I just dont see what all the excitement is about. That is all. Dont try to insult what little intelligence i have by saying im trying to be a redneck.

here's the deal...the WR's weren't as good as 2022, but i think that was a known going in.

i think Bru's injury really hurt because it put guys in roles they weren't necessarily ready for, or designed to be in.

i think we were a bit limited with the QB, we did so much around the boundaries, and not as much in the middle of the field as we did in 22. run heavy and we did not run as much tempo this year as we did in 22. still a fast paced offense, but i think we all agree it wasn't what it looked like in 22 either.

i think pass protection was not as good and while Milton became a more willing runner as the season went along, he wasn't someone you had to necessarily account for defensively, so that frees up defenses to play us a little differently.

in the end, i don't disagree with the separation comment, we weren't getting open a lot, and the windows were tighter.

by all rights with our run game being as effective as it was, it should set up a lot of play action and enhance the pass game, and that didn't really materialize like we had seen previously.

as for next year, i think getting Bru back is huge because he provides that over the middle, physical, possession type guy you can count on. and his blocking downfield will make a difference. it also puts slot guys back in the slot where they belong and allows a guy like Thortnon and Brazzel to go outside where they belong.

i also think you have talent in a guy like Leacock that needs to take a step this off season. Nimrod and Webb have been serviceable. and the incoming freshmen could push some of the older guys if they pick up the scheme....especially Matthews.

and you have a more dynamic QB.

so to me, i think there's plenty of reasons to have an optimistic take on the WR room...but it's worth keeping an eye on....i don't think it's a sure thing either. but i can see reason to be optimistic.

if the OL stays healthy and we build any depth there, the offense could be dynamic again.

Agreed but this NIL money is coming out of thin air. This is a purchased team just like TAMU. I definitely understand the why, I’m just wondering about the “how.”

I need to make some calls and find out what is going on at Ole Miss. They have paid some big bucks for NIL portal players this offseason. Highly unusual.
I think they are just swinging for a chance to get in the final 12. They have a veteran QB coming back with Dart. No better time then now to take that swing.

My bad. Just noticed your reply above before my previous post.

Hyatt was good from the time he got here. He always got open. Squeezing the pig skin was a mental hurdle
Yes. He got open but he had some stone hands early on. He also started running smoother routes. Less steps to get in and out of breaks and learning to drop his hips a little bit more so his first step out of the break was more explosive.

I heard AP say some are speculating that it may have been a done deal to Ole Miss before he even entered the portal. If so, sounds a lot like tampering.

The devil’s in the details of proving it.
