Lunardi moves TN up as #45 team safely in NCAA dance

Not only does lunardi still have TN in, he's freakin moved us up the S curve to #45

What gives ?! Last year we couldn't buy our way in. This year, we can't buy our way out!

@ESPNLunardi: 43-Byu, 44-StJohn, 45-Tenn, 46-Prov, 47-OkSt, 48-HARV, 49-GB, 50-NDST, 51-TOL, 52-SFA, 53-DEL, 54-IONA, 55-BELM, 56-MERC, 57-MTSU, 58-BU.

I don't see how that is possible. For any good win we may have had to this point, there have been twice as many bad losses. This cant be all because of Virginia. We whipped the doo-doo out of them and they sit atop the ACC but we also lost twice to freakin Texas A&M. We have some W's but we have some bad L's to. Win out and play good in the SECT and I 'might' change my mind about whether they belong in the NCAA's.

We don't deserve to be in, but with the field expanded to 68 a lot of undeserving teams get in.

For what it's worth, rpi forecast still has UT with a sub 50 rpi for every scenario if they make it to twenty wins.

If they win the last 4 and get 1 in the SEC tournament, they should still make the NCAA.

I don't think they are capable of 5 straight wins, but I don't see them getting left out if they get the rpi that high.

I'm in complete agreement, our SOS is gonna be thought very highly. Get the RPI better than 50 and I think we are in, and like you said 20 wins or better should do that.

Where's the SOS coming from though? We play in the SEC which by definition makes us weak in basketball. We beat Virginia. Heel yeah! The one win over an 18-9 Xavier. Woo hoo! Now if we'd have beaten Wichita St, UK and UF once, I'm guessing we'd be a possible #3 or #4 seed based on the love we're getting for doing so little to this point. Is this the year of orange or something?

Our SOS is top 20 so it's coming from somewhere

Our SOS comes from

Wich St 29-0
Fla x 2 - 25-2
UVA - 23-5

That's 102-7. I'd venture a guess that's 4 records better than anyone else has against their top 4 teams. That helps out a ton.

I know where it's coming from, was a rhetorical to the poster I quoted, sorry for the confusion.

Isn't Martin's biggest problem, that he doesn't recruit the players he needs to run his system?
He recruits tall lanky athletic guys to play defense. (which they do poorly anyway)
If he wants to run a system like Creighton and chuck 20 3s a game with his big man drawing the double team he needs 4 consistent perimeter and jump shooters, athletic or no.
As he said early in his tenure, he doesn't need a true PG to run it.
I'd agree that he doesn't NEED a true PG to run the offense efficiently, but I think we need a true PG to help this team succeed. We need someone who can 'create' driving lanes and someone who can also pass well. That's what we have been missing. Trae could attack the rim well, but made really bad decisions at PG. Thompson has shown he can pass well but he doesn't seem like an offensive threat. I feel like we'll have a better chance with Larry Austin running point and having Thompson on wing. Just a lot better decision makers.

Doesn't SOS pretty much lose it's value when you go 2-6 and possibly 1-6 against the rpi top 50?

No?

The committee rewards you for playing a tough schedule. Not saying it definitely gets us in, but if there's us and 1 other team, all things similar...but our SOS is 15 and theirs is 79...we are gonna get the nod.
