Lunardi moves TN up as #45 team safely in NCAA dance

Could he have us in bc it is just a REALLY REALLY bad year in College BB and he has to put someone in? I am not saying that is the reason bc I am not sure, but it makes the most sense.

What have you seen in the last 3 years to think that anything is going to change going forward? There is no reason not to can Martin after this year. This team isn't going to go on a miraculous run. They're a flawed team with a mediocre coach at best. They've had mind numbing losses all year. This is just another in a long line of them.

I see no reason to postpone the inevitable. Martin isn't the answer. Time for him to hit the bricks.
There's SOMETHING about Martin I can't put my finger on... He has some games where his coaching is brilliant and comes out with a great gameplan. Then other times I want him fired immediately for doing some idiotic. I say not having a true PG/leader has hurt this team a lot. No one seems to take heavy leadership.

Perhaps he will, can't guarantee he won't. If he does though, we wouldn't also be paying another coach along with his salary.

This year is head scratching but I don't buy he can't coach. His first year squad was picked to finish at the bottom of the league and it finished next to the top.

Is that the same coach that led us all the way to the 2nd round of the NIT and lost to MTSU? And next year took us the NIT again and then lost to Mercer in the 1st round? I guess if you want to be precise, he can coach (just not very well).

I'd like to hear some examples of "brilliant" things he's done in coaching this year.

[QUOTE=Volstylexx;9910142]Not only does lunardi still have TN in, he's freakin moved us up the S curve to #45

What gives ?! Last year we couldn't buy our way in. This year, we can't buy our way out!

Don't you mean, this year we seem to be able to lose our way in.

Isn't Martin's biggest problem, that he doesn't recruit the players he needs to run his system?
He recruits tall lanky athletic guys to play defense. (which they do poorly anyway)
If he wants to run a system like Creighton and chuck 20 3s a game with his big man drawing the double team he needs 4 consistent perimeter and jump shooters, athletic or no.
As he said early in his tenure, he doesn't need a true PG to run it.

Lunardi knows bracketology more than anyone else... and the fact that he somehow still has Tennessee in is puzzling, but I like it :D

I agree, horrible ugly basketball. Bad coaching and mediocre recruiting. This year would have gone MUCH better if Bruce's probation didn't end this year. As much as I don't like Cuonzo, he was brought into a terrible situation. We still haven't found a good PG to run Cuonzo's system, but Darius has shown glimpses.

If Cuonzo makes the tournament this year and wins a game, he does infact deserve to stay. As much as I hate his style of basketball and his timeouts, it would make sense. Next year would be a year ENTIRELY of his players, no more of Pearls. McRae is a headcase and whines a lot. If you haven't noticed Martin likes recruiting guys a lot like his personality (Hubbs, Richardson, etc). Just some thoughts.

Better IMO. Our bench seems to be jelled together and seems to play as more of a team (look at OOC games when our bench played). We won't McRae and Stokes fighting for possessions, and we'll have a REAL PG next year.

LMAO at Cuonzo having a "system".

The bench looked great and really cohesive on Saturday as well.

You must be trolling.

His gameplan for Virginia, @lsu, Xavier the 2nd game were all pretty solid.

Now one may say the gameplan was the same, if so what was the difference then?

It's what I don't understand. I have a hard time imagining Martin says leading up to the A&M game..."Alright guys, what I want you to do is walk the ball up, stand around, pass it around the wing, and McRae you shoot from 30 feet as the clock runs out".

I just don't see him making extreme changes to the gameplan, yet we have looked like a completely different team at times this year.

If CCM is not retained, it will be interesting to see who is on Dave Hart's radar as the next head coach.
