Mac McClung

He can score and isn't afraid of the moment. Players like that always have a spot on a team. We are getting crap killed right now and have multiple times this season because we can't score and have no one with a scorers mentality. I swear I believe a lot of people here would have passed on Chris Lofton out of high school.

Chris Lofton was efficient. He could shoot better than a measley 31% from 3p.

You think every one of our guys is afraid of the moment? Did Keon Johnson look afraid at the end of the half? I promise you that if Keon Johnson ran the offense as much as McClung does, he would have better points/assist stats. We have a guy better than McClung to run the offense. I don't know why we don't do it more.

Lofton was a high level scorer in high school that was undersized and supposedly couldn't play defense so didn't get a lot of respect. When a guy scores like McClung, lives in your backyard, has legacy ties to the school, it's not a bad idea to sign him. Especially with the 10 or 15 absolutely wasted scholarships Barnes has handed out since he's been here.

Lofton has no bearing here since my entire argument against MM is that he's not efficient and Lofton was very efficient. Also, Lofton was incredibly scary off-ball and had so much gravity because of his shooting ability, he opened things up for other guys. McClung is not scaring anybody off-ball.

We knew what McClung was because he had played 2 years. He's still that guy. It kinda works for TTU. They've had success with their defensive system and modestly effective iso-star offense. That's not Tennessee ball. Tennessee ball didn't work this year. McClung wasn't going to fix it and I don't think he makes us better.

There is no way any reasonable observer of the game could watch Tech's game and then watch our game and conclude Mac would not be helpful here

.... Mac McClung? I dont get your question

No reasonable observer should draw a conclusion from such scant evidence.

Mac could have helped us today. He also could have had a 1/11 day. Again, he did not play well today. His team showed up. Not him. That Mac McClung performance loses this game just as badly.

You can look at the entirety of the season. Today was just a nice distillation of the situation

His team played better without him today. He probably had a negative +/-. If you think he had anything significant to do with their win, you didn't watch.

I was against the idea of taking McClung when he transferred but that was mostly because we had Victor Bailey, already, who seemed to be a poor man's version of him. As it turns out, though, Bailey is a homeless man's version of McClung who is equally bad, defensively, and a much worse scorer despite being an equally ineffective volume shooter. I'd trade them 1 for 1 immediately if given the chance.

Just missed a crucial free throw to take the lead at the end of the Arkansas game.

Good thing he doesn’t play here or else he would have been crucified.

Thank goodness we don't play any players who are wont to miss the front end of a critical 1 and 1

Couldn’t get Texas Tech past the round of 32 but totally would’ve taken us to the Final Four.
Texas Tech doesn't have 3 nba players. We desperately lacked a true PG. Would have helped our 2 freshman, and our other guards. Final 4? Probably not. Sweet 16.. Most likely.

According to some, he was a “can’t miss” type of player yet, he shoots a similar percentage as Bailey.

MacClung was better than at least 7 players on the roster, is from our backyard and is a UT legacy. Not taking him was a mistake, especially having had two chances to take him. I don't know why it's so hard for some people to admit that.

His 2.1 assists to 1.9 turnovers while taking 3 more shots a game than any of his teammates is a true PG? Interesting.
TTU was an offensively challenged roster like us. They don't have 2 first round NBA picks though. I think he could have helped get even better shots for them and our other guys

The second time around, we already had Bailey. Hard to find room for two volume shooters who are super streaky and play little defense. Had MM transferred a year earlier, the case to take him over Bailey would have been much more compelling.

We didn’t have a scholarship the second time, not sure why people don’t grasp that.
