Mack Brown rerun of Fulmer. He's done Petrino licking his chops...

If they ever cut him loose, I think their search list of names will include a lot of the guys we looked at when we got Sumlin.

Would not shock me to see Charlie Strong as a leading candidate early. Personally, I hope they allow Mack to try to climb out of this hole for another year at least.

Just like we hope Driskel is fine by the UT game.

If there is a vacancy at Texas soon and I was Dan Mullen, I'd start working the back channels now!

Not saying that they'd hire him, but if I were him, I would fight like hell for that job.

Why in the hell would they hire Dan Mullen? There's a strong possibility he'll get his walking papers after the season is over.

Geoff Calkins on 92.9 ESPN in Memphis says that Saban and Hugh Freeze would be major candidates for the job.

Can't see either happening.

Really dont see Saban going anywhere. Why would he? He has developed a dynasty at Alabama and he basically cherry picks the talent wherever he wants and has all the big money backing him. I am no Bama fan and would love to see him go but I think he is at Alabama for awhile.

NS may be at Alabama for quite sometime...

However, "IF" Alabama loses a game or two they shouldn't during the course of this season and if NS realizes that the rest of the conference is beginning to catch up with rival schools hiring quality coaches, improving facilities, etc. to compete with the likes of Alabama and other programs...Saban knows what the rest of us already know. Dynasty's don't last forever and CFB runs in cycles with different programs achieving the glory.

Texas is a proud program with a storied tradition. They have the facilities, location and financial backing to offer just about anyone in the coaching profession.

It will be interesting to see how the situation at Texas unfolds.

Very good points. At this point at Bama anything shy of 11-1 without a NC would be a disappointing season. You are correct about CFB being cyclical, eventually (within the next couple of seasons) they will have a 9-3 or so season(s). The Bammers will be calling for his head saying he is too old.

At TX he would be a god for the next 5+ years at 10-2 with much easier paths to the final 4.

I can see Mack Brown pulling a Bowden, having to be out.
You know all these guys have huge ego's and believe given time they can reclaim the glory days.

If Texas is in the market for a coach, they'll be able to do better than Bobby Petrino. He's a guy who can win games, but a high falootin' program like that isn't going to want to deal with everything that comes with him. He'll have to keep his nose clean at WKU for a couple more years to get close to something like Texas' level.

Mack's days are numbered. Dobbs will take his million dollar bonus at the end of the year and ride off into the sunset to Kansas. The new blood will chit can Mack, Barnes and Soggy Burrito in short order (dammit).

Look for Petersen or Fatterson to take over the football program unless Saban's ego says let's win one at three stops.

If Texas loses Saturday. I say brown is gone. I think that would mean they are headed for 6-6 or 5-7. And the boosters would be done with him.

Texas, the flagship university in the most football crazy state with the best recruits has 4 national championships and only 1 in the last 40 years. Why does everyone view them as a power?

Ole Pizz winning in Austin...won't happen. How did they do at home last year, it seems Mack named his own score and will do it again (ole puss ain't no BYU you know). OU will hang 60 on him in Dallas and we'll hang 60 on him in Waco. DeLoss will retire and...

Careful what you say. Ole Miss is no slouch. I believe Ole Miss gets the W in Austin.

You better hope that Texas doesn't pursue the Baylor Coach Art Briles. He's done a damn good job and the Shorthorns might be interested.

I said the same thing at work the other day. Texas will go after someone high profile and Strong is a win/win in their book. Besides being an automatic leg up in the way Texas can recruit in their backyard, it gives them an in for Florida recruiting which Strong has already proven he can reach into.

Gotta remember, Louisville is heading for the ACC. When they make the move they'll be competing with Clemson, FSU and Miami for top billet. Those three programs are either on the rise or near the top. As well as Va Tech and Georgia Tech who's programs are no slouch either. Plus he stands a chance of losing his starting QB, one of the RBs and receivers to the draft this year as well as a guaranteed loss of his starting RB. He does have promising Freshman coming up, but still, a loss of everything his offense produces? He'll be lucky to keep the players around for a senior year if/when they declare for the draft and he starts in the middle of the road in the ACC.

I'd say of all the Div 1 FBS head coaches out there, Charlie Strong makes the most sense for Texas to go after. He's only going to be able to take Louisville so far. We didn't get him, but when you send your resident booger eater to recruit him? He claimed loyalty to his program (and knew he had a great team coming back) but then again, we didn't offer him what Texas can and probably would.

He's high profile, high demand, smart, a monster recruiter and could do good things in Texas. A win/win for the horns and for Charlie Strong.
