Mack Brown said on Finebaum that if they(South Carolina) wanted to talk he'd talk.

I'm sure USCe is like
FAST-TRACKER-19.jpg

think they go young with this hire..Fuente would be risky but high upside

I can tell you UVA has interest in Mack Brown and Va tech has interest in Kiffin (I don't think theres a chance Beamer will return for another season, health reasons)

Oh, yes...PLEASE!

Edit: They would promote Bud Foster, though... and they should. He has been incredibly loyal and is a great coach.

Interesting. Wouldn't be a terrible hire. I mean...I wouldn't want him in Knoxville, but they could do worse.

Mack was my coach for my first year in college. He was truly an up and comer at that time and I have great feelings for the man. That being said, I fear the game has passed him by and I think the comparison to Fulmer is very accurate. I don't think USC or anyone should go that route. Besides, I really like him as an analyst.

Not worried about him at all. His high school/arena league jump ball style of football would drive me crazy and won't work long in SEC.

People said the same about the spread offenses of guys like Urban Meyer and Gus Malzahn. And what his "jump ball style of football" is doing at Memphis is pretty damn impressive regardless of how it's happening. He took a 4-8 team in year one and made them 10-3 with a top 25 ranking for the first time in a decade in year three and is currently undefeated so far (though he'll lose this week most likely.) What he has done at Memphis, and the fact he's done it so quickly, is more impressive than Franklin at Vandy compared to where they were when they started, the school's history, and the conference.

Because people forget that Franklin's first roster had 49 red shirted players on it, and the majority were red shirted sophomores/juniors, so he won the bulk of his games with older kids the previous staff left him compared to guys like Butch or Fuente who are doing it with younger talent.

Meyer and Malzahn run different styles. Also look at what's happened to Malzahns team this year. Defenses have caught up to the gimmick style and he's having to change it up. Fuente's offense would NOT work long term in big boy football where he faces good defenses. Too many good athletes on defense around the league.

I actually think UVA would be a good spot for Mack. He's not going to win championships there, but he could certainly get them to be an 8 win a year type team. I think he could have the type of seasons Cutcliffe is having at Duke.

Mack is a master recruiter and an outstanding CEO. If he were to get the job there would be an instant infusion of cash and upgrading of overall recuiting IMO. If he were to hire the right coordinators (and that's a big if) he would have them competing for the east title in short order. With his ability to raise cash, bump him to AD somewhere down the road.

Malzahan's offense isn't working because he has 2 statues at QB. Theres a major difference in our offense with Dobbs vs Worley.

I agree with most of what you are saying. And honestly you living in Texas would be closer to what Mack is about now. I played for him in the 80s lol. But I'm not sure he would truly be able to radically increase donations to the point where USC could create facilities etc to match UT and UF. Maybe... there is significant money tied to the school. Mack used to be a great recruiter for sure and he may still be but I'm not sure he has the energy to compete in tge recruiting wars of SC, GA, NC and FL. There are 15-20 power 5 schools battling for the talent in those 4 states.
