My first post, though I read alot and comment some on others. So, had we beaten South Carolina, would we have been in the top four at the end of the regular season? I'm guessing no. I think the Trojans and/or Ohio State would still be ahead of us. Maybe not though. I'd feel better knowing we would not have gotten in regardless of the South Carolina outcome. Either way, GREAT season...GBO!

If USC and TCU win out there is no way in hades Tenn goes in before an undefeated big 12 and 1 loss Pac12 champ that hasn't been in before. Not a chance.
Yea, I agree. Still championship games to decide, but they would/will not be able to ignore Trojans if they win the Pac12. This is what I will keep telling myself!

If we had not lost to SC it would have been a big debate between TN and USC. TN playing in the SEC with a tougher schedule and USC as their league champion, if they win it. The SEC haters would have pushed against having 2 SEC teams in so it would have been a tough battle. Utah beats them again TN would have been a lock.

After week 10 TN was ranked well above USC and TCU. SC beat TN in week 11 (oops).

Had all 3 teams won out after week 10, how would USC or TCU have leaped over TN?

I may have this wrong. Been a minute.

13-0 champion and 12-1 champion vs our 11-1. The share the wealth members of the committee could pull it off. Even with our 1 loss to #1.

Everything fell like it needed to for UT to get in if they'd beaten USCe. Still a season to be celebrated and MAJOR progress.

Some of us have pointed out for a long time that a coach needs to win 9+ games within his first two seasons or else he was very, very unlikely to ever win at that school. With hundreds of cases over 40 years, there are only a handful of exceptions to that rule. Heupel showing that he can coach well this quickly bodes well for his chances of winning championships at UT. That one slip didn't change that.

I’ve told myself that even had we won in Columbia, we’d have been kicked in the nuts by the committee at selection time. TCU, USC, someone else. Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not. We’ll never know. But I’m choosing to believe it is. 😀

Think of it this way, if August 30th I told you we would be 10-2 in the regular season and beat FL and Bama AND be looking at the Orange or Sugar bowl would you have accepted that outcome before the season started? This is/has been an incredible season for the Vols. I think I heard somewhere that this is only the 14th time in school history we won 10 or more games. Yes the loss to USCe hurts, but we will just have to destroy that team next year.

If Tns only loss was to Georgia on the road we were in in front of tOSU who lost at home by 3 Tds but TCU and U.S.C. would have be in front if they win out.

Assuming Southern Cal wins the PAC10 Championship next week; I suspect they would have jumped us in the final poll. At the very least there would have been a major push in the media for it.

I hate we weren’t even able to put up an argument though…

It depends on what happens this weekend.

The only reason USC is in for right now, is because Ohio State lost by 3 scores to Michigan at home and Bama doesn't have a quality win to justified the #4 slot. Unfortunately, TN had an opportunity to make the playoffs.
