I wonder if Walz does end up here which recruits we have stay and which ones leave. Nyah Green had Tennessee in her final five but went with Louisville. It would be great to see her come here and Horston and the two centers to stay. That right there would be the nucleus with the present roster to move Tennessee in the elite status with a well run program. A lot to be determined when you change coaches especially which players will play where.

Assuming Rennia Davis stays ,I think the core players are Westbrook and/or Horston, Kushkituah, Key, Green and Burrell. If the two Aussies, Kamera, and Saunders stick around, that will be added depth. It seems that Collins will probably leave, which is shame because she would be a nice 4 in Walz's system. Hate to be blunt, but Massengill is probably expendable if both Westbrook and Horston are on the roster with Green.

My ideal situation is Walz brings Dana Evans and Sam Fuehring with him (and they have immediate eligibility because of the coaching change).

PG Evans, Horston
SG Westbrook, Horston, Green
SF Davis, Green, Burrell
PF Fuehring, Burrell
C Kushkituah, Fuehring, Key

That's a NC rotation right there with the right coach!

I don't think a man belongs in the womens locker room any more than a woman belongs in a mens locker room. I've said it. It's my opinion and no arguments or discussions are going to change the way I feel about it. I'm well into the minority on this subject and knew before I voted, it wouldn't be PC to say it.

Fuehring is a senior and has played all 4 years, she's done. As far as immediate eligibility for Evans, I don't think players automatically get immediate eligibility due to a coaching change, especially if they follow the coach.

I know nothing will change your mind, but really. Do you have a problem with a lesbian in a women’s locker room? If so many colleges would lose their women’s basketball coach.

Well I am in the hire Walz corner because he brings as much or more than we can possibly lose in player transactions. This is always the major concern when you change coaches and his ability to coach is totally proven by 11 years in Louisville.

It happened in softball don't know if that is a rule in basketball. Four players were immediately eligible to play for Texas when their coach at Oregon became the coach at Texas. They didn't have to sit out a year but were allowed to follow their coach to texas.

Would rather have a female coach for the women's team. But if it takes a man to recover status as one of the top (if not the top) program well, so be it.
This being said, if it turns out to be a man, then I think the "Lady Vols" name should be dropped. For me, a man leading a program identified as "Lady's" just doesn't ring true.

Seriously, Tyler would've been on the list if he had not messed up. Ur in America that everyone judged u for the rest of ur life on one thing that u did wrong, doesn't matter if ur a child when u did it.
It depends on WHAT you did wrong. Having sex with someone you’re coaching doesn’t necessitate a second chance at being in the same position. What’s the argument? He may not the next time?

Fulmer Doing Work?

Of course Holly Warlick never came back to Tennessee so she's still technically Tennessee's head coach. Of course she's not going to be for long as there's movement behind the scenes. Firstly, we reported Monday that Holly Warlick met with AD Phillip Phillip Fulmer Monday where they had the talk. Yesterday, I learned there are developments toward the next coach at Tennessee. While on Tuesday's Tony Basilio Show, I learned that Phillip Fulmer reached out to others within the sport for opinions on potential coaches. So, Fulmer has been compiling a list for a while. Also, it appears the opening could be more attractive than originally thought.

Reports Could Ring True:

Gene Henley of Chattanooga Times Free Press reported on Twitter that Louisville is preparing for the eventual departure of Head Coach Jeff Walz to Tennessee. Before you dismiss that out of hand, consider this. After yesterday's show I received a call from a source in the Commonwealth telling me that he knew Walz had initiated contact with the University of Tennessee and that he's made his desire to take over at Tennessee known to AD Phillip Fulmer. I was told that Walz believes he could have a Geno type run if given the opportunity to lead Tennessee.

The real question on Lady Vols is...
spacer.gif
will Phillip Fulmer really pull the trigger on a male coach and risk a potential mutiny? Anybody that pays attention to the politics of women's sports realizes that it's not a stretch to believe that hiring a male to lead the Lady Vols will be met with more than tepid resistance.

All these comments from Basilio blog find it very interesting that Walz is applying for the job wanting it very badly it seems.

I think the higher level sports are not allowed the same as softball, volleyball and soccer if I am not mistaken!

I really thought Waltz would be a pipe dream. If said happened then he may really be interested. I would go for that myself!

Presuming Tyler would be a good coach just because his mother was the best ever is the exact kind of baseless judgment that allowed Holly Warlick to stick around so long. Coaches shouldn't be selected based on relatives, friends or longevity with a program (think Warlick, Bill Guthridge, John Thompson, Jr.). Head coaches should be selected based on an established record of success and observable leadership qualities. In his brief career, he established nothing indicating he was a proven coach and a leader. Not saying he is a bad or good person. He just never should have been considered for a high D1 program even without his issue.

.

Resistance? Where do people get this? Who cares? We’ve followed and donated to LV and Vols since early ‘80s, I think we qualify as fans. I could not care less if a man or woman is hired; everyone I know feels the same way. There are always the vocal, vindictive, trolling, nay sayers, etc. who will find something to complain about. Might as well get used to it. There are some who truly believe, like @VolJarhead, it should be a woman. What makes anyone think he or those who agree with him would in anyway lead or participate in a “resistance”?

I believe most LV fans, not the people who love strife and dissension, not the trolls, not the fans of other teams always looking to cause trouble (you know who you are, just admit it) only want what is best for the program - any team, any athlete. We all have favorite teams, LV basketball, men’s basketball, softball, football, whatever. That doesn’t mean we don’t pull for them all and want them to have the BEST AVAILABLE.

IMO, hire the best available, equal opportunity, no discrimination, and no favoritism. Male or female. And, IMO, there are some out there who would just love to stir up controversy so they get more “clicks” and could not care less about the program, team, coaches, or anything or anyone else.

Rant over.
