Yeah I think last years class was basically Dooleys and bUTch just mainly tried to salvage it. Similar to how Dooley tried to salvage and hold together Kiffins last group of idiot YouTube stars....

I would say 2014 is bUTch's first class.

So last year was year 0?

Don't forget Paul Harris. But I consider it more of Dooley's class.

Yeah that kid was all hyped up out of high school....looked great on film.....then on the field....

RS freshman DE Malik Brown plans to transfer to another school, per Butch Jones. Brown has battled injuries throughout his UT career.

Okay!! So Malik will transfer and suddenly he will have no more injures.

If he were healthy he might see the field. So, why transfer? Just get healthy and push for playing time.

I remember a few weeks ago we when we had 18 scholarships open for 2015 Butch said he expected to recruit about 22 + for 2015 looks like we are getting close to the attrition quota even with the preferred walk ons and gray shirts we are putting on scholarship..

Not on the field, but as far as recruiting goes I'd say that that's a pretty fair statement. People gave Dooley a lot of flack for that, but it doesn't make it false. Dooley's problem wasn't that the first year wasn't up to snuff. His problem was that HE wasn't up to snuff and we were only really able to judge that in years 2-3 (or 1-2 if you prefer).

Because there's no way he was gonna beat out J Johnson, Hendrix, Henderson, or Barnett (if he stays at DE). And then we have Andrew Butcher and possibly another 1 or 2 DEs coming in next fall.

The writing was on the wall for him.

I think the odds of at least 2-3 of the 7 DL we took last class (5-6 of which were rated as 4 stars by at least one recruiting service) panning out are pretty good.

probably so. we need em. Id quit just paying attention to the stars though. Carr was also a 4 star. McNeil was somehow a top 80 player.

I wasn't saying stars automatically make a player good, but you have to admit the odds are better of finding 2-4 quality starters from a group of 4 stars or 5 stars than from 2 and 3 stars.

That doesn't mean 3 stars and even the occasional 2 star can't make it big. Give me a 3 star with a killer work ethic (like Jashon Robertson) over a 4 star with a lack of passion for the game (like Carr) any day.

Being highly rated usually means that a player has the physical tools to become a good or great player. That's a good starting point, but there's a lot more to being a good football player than just having the physical tools. McNeil and Carr are perfect examples of this.
