Malik Brown to transfer...

He was never injured. We just told everyone he was to not hurt his feelings, at least that's what I learned from this board today.

He very well could have been battling some nagging injuries that he got during HS ball. And though this board is very good at announcing things before local media can broadcast or print it, speculation runs rampant here.

This kind of thing seems to happen every year. And when it does, some of us still sit at our computers, and cut into them. That reinforces my belief that when it is stated that Tennessee has one of the most passionate fan bases in the country, it is not always a compliment.

I wasn't saying stars automatically make a player good, but you have to admit the odds are better of finding 2-4 quality starters from a group of 4 stars or 5 stars than from 2 and 3 stars.

That doesn't mean 3 stars and even the occasional 2 star can't make it big. Give me a 3 star with a killer work ethic (like Jashon Robertson) over a 4 star with a lack of passion for the game (like Carr) any day.

Being highly rated usually means that a player has the physical tools to become a good or great player. That's a good starting point, but there's a lot more to being a good football player than just having the physical tools. McNeil and Carr are perfect examples of this.

That was very well-stated. Thank you. :hi:

What happen to kids fighting for spots? Maybe I'm off base here but it seems like a lot of kids just quit

I had heard that MB was having chronic injury problems. Didn't he break same wrist 3 times?

Sometimes they leave because they realize they're not as good as they thought/hoped they were and that they're not really cut out for an SEC program but still want to play at the level they can play at. Other times it's just getting buried in the depth chart even though they're still a legit SEC level player. Other times they realize it's not their future and they don't really love it - they were just good at it when they were young and got praise for it. Still other times, they don't fit in, miss home too much, need to get away from bad influences they associated themselves with or have some other personal reason for leaving.

It's not always as simple as leaving so you can play somewhere else although that happens too. Also, the vast majority still fight it out.

probably so. we need em. Id quit just paying attention to the stars though. Carr was also a 4 star. McNeil was somehow a top 80 player.

I think you maybe a bit had on McNeil, any 5* kid would have looked bad in our DB back field, we are so slow the was real issues with filling holes as the play develop. I think we get better but the 2015 is when we get even with the top SEC teams.

McNeil's main problems are all mental. He has the physical tools to be a good safety, but he's slow to diagnose plays and often takes poor angles.

Products of the "there is no winner or loser, just participants" mindset. No winners and losers in their life till they come to school and play football here and realize yeah, there are winners and losers in life every day and they seem to be on the losing side.

Some can't take it and go home to Mommy.

Butch's real first class is just now getting to campus.

Agreed. He did what he had to with just a few months that first class, this is his first true class. He got some good playees to build on in the '13 class but the '14 class if most pan out like we hope and think will be the one that helped getting us back where we should be.

If I'm not mistaken this will be the first time in his college career that he's had the same defense two years running. I think it's hampered a lot of our current defenders and I, for one, am glad to at least have that consistency to look forward to this year.

Good luck to Malik, but things are starting to heat up and attrition happens. Butch seems to know where he's going and how to get there, unfortunately some players will choose to leave the program.

Be careful with that kind of talk around here.

I do find it funny how the good ones are on CBJ, and the bad ones on Dooley. Classic 'Legion of the Miserable'.

Dooley was terrible.:hi:
