Malzahn (not) to be named Vandy coach

I wouldn't think so.. He's going to have to prove he can change Vandy in the slightest before recruits even look at him..

He's going to have to prove he is anything but a ridiculously lucky SOB who runs a gimmick offense before anyone looks at him.

Every source saying it is done is basing it off of a blog. There are multiple reports that say it isn't done, with sources at Vandy.

Haha sorry chavis.. I grew up in Nashville and basically owned Vandy season tickets to football every year.. I was raised a UT fan but the tickets were so cheap we would go to Vandy all the time.. Always cheer for them when they aren't playing the vols..

I didn't think there was any way I could dislike Vandy more than I already do. Now, after hearing the talk of hiring Malzahn and Tooper, I realize I was wrong.

That gimmick offense is exactly why he's a good fit at Vandy. Lesser teams need something gimmicky to be at least somewhat competitive.

Malzahn wants to bring Trooper, but TT wants some monogrammed Vandy towels and wants Vandy to donate $180,000 to some church in Georgia.

I don't understand the infatuation with Malzahn. He brought a gimmicky offense into the league, had mediocre success in year one, then had the Heisman trophy winner fall into his hands. Now he's a sure-fire success at head coach? Maybe, but I'm skeptical.

why do people keep saying this? what makes it gimmicky as you call it?
he isnt violating the rules and it works/
or do you think every team should "man up" and run the old I-formation?
and you think that with a Cam Newton on your team you dont play to his strengths and give your team the advantage just because some might think its not "real" football?

malzahn is a good offensive coach guys.. don't kid yourselves...his offense will score there... his asst coaches tho will determine if he gets them bowl eligible in a couple years... then, if successful, 3 mil will morph into a 5 mil a year deal at a big time school... he should have gone to pitt tho

Auburntigers.com is saying it's not true. According to them sources "very close" to CGM says he is not going to Vandy.

Piece of cake. He just needs to find a few Cam Newtons and Darren McFaddens to commit to Vandy. Shouldn't be too hard.

Gimmicky in the sense that it's successful mainly because other teams are unfamiliar with defending it. And without Newton it wasn't incredibly successful at all.

Watching SMU run the triple option in the 80s on the 30 for 30 last night made me think that there's a reason why people quit running these offenses and that is that someone at some point in time cracked the code and fgured out how to shut it down. You'd think that some of these college educated coaches could crack a few books or at least look at some grainy old film and figure out how to shut this stuff down.

his offense at Tulsa was the 2nd highest scoring in the country and last year Chris Todd broke school passing records. Malzahn will put up big numbers.
