Remember how Malzahn backed out of an agreement to coach Vandy for $3 million per year, just one year ago? Either Malzahn is not as smart as he and others think he is or something foul is in the air at Auburn.

But you can win at Arkansas State and use it as a stepping stone. You can't sniff 10 wins at Vandy.

Think about this. Let's say AU is not getting ready to burn, and that very well could be what's going on, but for the sake of argument let's say that's not what's happening. Could this make Malzhan one really smart guy? In this sense. He takes this job, a lot less pressure with the possibility of being able to stick around there for a long time. Win a few, lose a few, no more immense pressure and you can be around your family (I know...the wife...still) and enjoy coaching again. He used to coach high school..maybe he's tired of the rat race. I've always thought of the guy as a douche because of the Arkansas stuff but maybe he's heading to a Chris Peterson style gig. Just a thought.

Well the brains of the Auburn team are gone....wonder also if a certain university's N.C. is going to be short lived.

He applied for the Maryland and UNC jobs.... Pretty high profile stuff.

Went to a place where expectations are not as great as the SEC or other big time conferences....He should have waited and took the UK Job after next year

If Troop doesn't get the OC position, which he shouldn't, he's out of there. He's already been interviewing. The Barn's going down faster than Tony Montana.

Couple things:

1. Just goes to show it's not always about money, contrary to the opinions of many on this forum.

2. What has Malzahn really proven other than he can "coach" a consensus NFL rookie POY to a national title?

I'm pretty sure that Cam Newton is responsible for Cam Newton's success. Malzahn simply refused to get in his way.
