Florida got stomped by Oregon State and now Missouri is getting thumped by Wake Forest.

I am seriously worried about Tennessee's chances against Clemson. I would love for Tennessee to finish in top 10 but they really need to win bowl game. Worried that this will be a tough ask.

SEC always lays eggs in these bowl games, partially because so many players opt out.

Just an exhibition game no need to worry. Extra weeks of practice. No one outside of the Vols, Tigers fans will remember who won by next August.
I understand your opinion about bowl games being exhibitions, but I really hate that people keep saying it that way. It reminds me of when Hillary Clinton made reference to primary elections by saying there are no rules, merely traditions. These reflect on our program historically, and many people like myself enjoy the meaning of these games.

To be fair, Wake Forest probably should be beating Missouri given both teams this year.

No need to worry, CJH and this staff will have our Vols ready to play. If Milton can execute the game plan, then we got a real chance to get the W. CJH can scheme up an offense to score. We will have to stop Clemson more than not. Our defense will need to show up ready to play. 35-31 Vols get it done. We send Dabo to the off season whining like Roy Williams did for the Tarheels. He will need a box off Kleenex at the podium. Go Big Orange!!

So 14-10 is getting stomped?

Not really. SEC teams generally "play up". Oregon State finished 5th in the Pac12. UF was 5th in the SEC East and played without AR.

Mizzou and WF are somewhat closer. MU is probably the SEC's #10 team. WF is 8th or 9th in the ACC.

Florida was 6-6, 7-5? Without their top two QBs. Oregon State was ranked.

Wake's qb is good.

Our standing vs Clemson has always been more about our players than our respective conferences.

People say its an exhibition because it gives them an excuse to shrug it off if we lose.

Have to agree with VOLtaism on this one. Of course I’d rather win it than lose it, but bowls have been becoming less and less special for some time now. The sheer number of them has diminished their value. When there weren’t as many, it was actually an accomplishment to get invited to one, now all you have to do is schedule four patsies and go 2-6 in conference play. The opt outs have chipped away at them even more, then add in the disappointment of not being in the playoff when it was there for the taking. I’ll always want Tennessee to make one, and I’ll watch every play and go to some, but the real value in these things is the extra practice and seeing what you have for next year.

Bowl games were special before there was the BCS/Playoff. As soon as they made a National Championship Game it turned the rest of the Bowl Games into nothing more than an exhibition game.
Back in the day depending how games played out, a team ranked even in 6th could end up #1 in the polls.
Another thing there weren’t all these predetermined conference tie-ins like there are today, you did have some but it was completely different.

Maybe to some, but most of us care. I hope I never get to the point of calling a UT game meaningless.
How does it affect our chances of a championship? It's a scrimmage game. I'm not gonna be mad if we lose like I would have been during the season. It's different and you know it.
