Many scoffed at CBJ declaration of having the best staff in America

I'll say this - I liked Derek Dooley, at first, I supported him, and I wanted him to win when he was here, but I never truly bought in like I have to Butch Jones.

True story here: I was riding a shuttle bus back to where I had parked my car on Saturday, and the bus driver had the Butch Jones Show playing over the speakers. Everyone, including the Carolina fans on the bus, were quiet, listening to the players and Coach Jones recount how the Vols came away victorious. During one of the players' interview, he said something to the effect of "we would run through a wall for Butch Jones". As soon as he said that, I kid you not, everyone on the packed-full bus started cheering and clapping. It's been a while since we could truly trust a coach, and I think we've found our guy. Here's to hoping he becomes as well-loved in the state of Tennessee as the last great caretaker of Tennessee football was.

I remember hearing that. It was either James or Richardson, I can't remember which.

I doubt it is the best based on whatever criteria you want to use, but it may be for Butch because of chemistry, the ability to teach and motivate, implementing what Butch's envisions and his philosophies, etc. Are they the best in Xs and Os and making adjustments? I doubt it, but are they the best in doing what Butch wants to accomplish? Probably.

How dare he say that.

How dare they scoff him when staff's like Saban's is out there.

What can you say?

Of course... there is no concrete way to measure this, but given what he and his staff have done to this point on and off the field and including recruiting, I'm starting to understand what he was talking about.

This staff all share the same vision and obviously have great chemistry. Give them two years and we'll be back competing for championships.

I'm happy with everyone BUT CJB, the offense seems very predictable and think our strengths could have been played better.

What have you not seen the improvement from game one to now?

I've seen improvement in the execution of the handful of plays we run. I'll give that to the position coaches. Outside of one drive two weeks ago, the play calling seems predictable and unimaginative.

If u think this is the best staff please tell me what have they done as a complete staff that backs up your assumptions..

Def is better but not great. Special teams most improved
Off is not good n nothing on the off side shows the off staff is the best..

Have u forgotten the fla game n the qb play. I have other examples also.

Let's talk at the end of the season now its to early IMO.

Now if they beat bama I will agree
Debbie Downer....Buzz Killer.....Derek Dooley :dunno: ?

I have enjoyed going through game threads and the type threads that have bashed The hire and the staff. We have some fickle fans. There are so many it is unbelievable. Coach jones stated it is a process and without stating it that the process is going to take some time. We are ahead of schedule I do believe.

There is a lot of second guessing and questioning his decisions which seemingly have all been correct. This coach must know his players very well. He could not have scripted the 4th quarter on Saturday any better or the GA comeback.

It's funny, fans changing like the wind...bipolar.

OBTW, did I read that 3 of our coaches in the top 25 for college recruiters.

I think winning the GA game would have been better scripted. Just sayin'.

:)

These are the kinds of threads that should be unnecessary. Let the coaching staff walk the walk and that will speak for itself. Don't forget we got rid of a very successful coach and staff, which I agreed with the change. I would bet even with all Fulmers success most would not say we had the best coaching staff in America. So making this kind of claim so early in CBJ tenure is beyond the pale.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. More specifically, I was thinking how wrong I was for disagreeing with Butch when he made that statement. Having seen what they have done in every aspect of this program in a relatively short period of time, I'd take them (every single member of the staff) over ANY staff in the country! When the time comes, we MUST pay these assistants to keep this staff together! Their combination of savvy, motivational techniques, and collective personalities have created something truly special here and it will likely become even more so in the future. Truly unlike anything I've seen in ALL my years as a fan of the game. Sincere thanks to this entire staff and team #117 for rekindling in me an appreciation for the life-altering power this great sport can have. #onetennessee #family #butchgetsit #brickbybrick #govols #risetothetop

What part of what I said is delusional in your opinion?

Pushing delusional. With the title of the thread, it seems you were implicit in saying this staff was the best staff in America. I should have read further into your post. I agree with the chemistry and cohesiveness of this staff and the overall program. Just premature as to call it the "best staff in America." That's all.

Go Vols! Butch Please.

Good Lord. Some of you are taking this "best staff in America" thing way, way too seriously. I'm sure he believes in his staff, and hired the best guys he could find, but this is classic Butch Jones coach speak.

What did you expect him to do, get up on the podium and say "I'm going to hire a thoroughly mediocre coaching staff"?

I still kinda chuckle when I think about him making that statement. He's done a great job so far, and we're all optimistic, but we obviously don't have the best coaching staff in the country. We got what we need and that's fine with me.

Define your meaning of predictable. I do think we are predictable in the sequence of the play calls. I also think te run game is predictable in that Worley is not going to keep it and that is not going to be fixed until we have a QB who fits the sysytem.

To give all the credit to the position coaches is not fair as if it works like it should the offense coordinator comes up with scheme and postion coaches teach it in practice. I have seen a lot of wide open receivers and huge holes for running backs that were schemed into position to make plays.

Why do I think if UT beats Bama that you'll still have plenty examples of why the coaches haven't done anything and still suck? Won't matter if anyone talks at the middle or end of this season, or the beginning of next season.... your opinion, no worries, you have the right to pick out all the failures and shortcomings. Think I'm gonna look for the positives, of which there are many, and feel good about where the program is headed.

We could win the National Championship and he wouldnt be happy

Love Butch and the direction he and his staff have this team going , but without question imo the best staff in America is in Tuscaloosa

This coaching staff has taken an unranked team and was one play away from beating the # 6 team in the nation. Followed it up with beating the # 11 team in the nation.

They have had a very short time in developing this team. The team that played against UGA and SoCar would have beaten Florida too. They keep getting better.

Teaching them good habits and correcting bad habits. Changing the culture to a team that believes in themselves takes time.

They have improved greatly in a very short period of time.

I am pleased with this coaching staff and I have no complaints.
