Marcus Smart

If people that were sitting around the guy confirm he dropped the n-word, he should be banned from Texas Tech sporting events permanently.

According to Twitter, the fan admitted saying something he should not have said, which is sad considering we're talking about a 60 year-old man taunting a 20 year-old kid.

It still doesn't condone what Smart did, but his story about what the fan called him appears to have legs.

It's actually highlighting something quite interesting. The individuals that are okay with Smart's actions are largely the individuals that want me to get my ass beat for saying nothing more than words or for doing something they think is either socially unacceptable or stupid.

Nothing like encouraging physical violence toward individuals that either think differently or think less competently than others. Kudos to you all.

Oh I just want u to get a box of pubes shipped to your door every month till u die.

Also, I don't want u to get ass beaten but i really wouldn't care either way.

Absolutely pathetic. I wish Smart hadn't gone after him, but maybe that's what it took to expose that guy.

He should also be kicked out of a free country. We don't really need freedom of speech, after all, the right to verbalize whatever it is that one thinks is incredibly overrated.

You do realize this Smart incident has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech......or maybe not.

You are free from government persecution for exercising your right to free speech.

If you post your address over the internet and challenge people to fight, you aren't protected from anything.

This is how I feel. Smart was wrong and should be suspended for his action. That being said, the fan is a moron and should be ashamed of himself.

and I think the hand towards the face caused the reaction. When someone points or puts their hand towards someone's face in any way in a confrontation, it's on. jmo. Smart has to turn and walk away of course, and be the bigger man, than the fatass in the stands.

1. The desires expressed on here and the condoning of using physical violence against "offensive" speech, has everything to do with freedom of speech.

2. I have not challenged anyone to a fight. I've provided my address so that individuals who desire to do me harm can follow through on those desires.

3. I'm not really concerned much with what I am protected from.

please go to the most random, crazy website and send him a years worth of goat dung or something via delivery each week. I will fund the entire project if you do the legwork.

He can say whatever he wants, but he shouldn't have the opportunity to hide behind the First Amendment after his mouth has written a check and the large black man has come to collect.

I want to agree with you badly, but I also wonder what role it being on a public campus plays. Here at UT, I've seen "street preachers" on campus call female students "whores" to their face. One even called my wife a "lesbian" once, I suppose because she has short hair. (I wasn't present, and it's a damn good thing I wasn't.) Point is, no one kicks them off campus. Maybe we could, but I'm not sure. And I wonder with it being at a sporting event, how that affects things as well. Surely, someone can't go around just saying whatever the hell they want without repercussions, simply because it's a "public space" though. My point is, however, this scenario is different from someone being banned from a privately provided internet forum.

Anyhow, personally, I wish Smart would have knocked his ass out if what is being reported is true. I'm all for free speech, but I draw a line here: you can say whatever you want in public spaces if its directed at no individual in particular (even hate speech). Once you direct it at a particular individual, you've crossed into verbal assault, imo, and deserve whatever the other person wants to give you. Words and responsibility still mean something to me.
