wake forest has 5 players from top 100 ,and their coach got fired they have a 6,8 and 6,11 player that may be available if pearl wants to give them a look, if i could afford to drive to prospects schools and homes i would show them comparisons of ut and their facilaties and the knoxville and east tennessee community.and ask they why would they want to go to other places ,ive been to every sec campus except arkansas , i like columbia a little and lsu has nice campus but they dont have the awesome community ,like k town and east tennessees ,lakes, mountains, great town with no gangs ,while lexington has horses and flat ground ,few trees, and white fences,ut has awesome facilities

yah that wouldnt launch an NCAA investigation or anythin. not to mention, a bit creepy, plus, are you high?

He also wasn't a 3 star nobody.

When the new rankings come out this guy will be a 4 star. He was Mr. Basketball for his class in Georgia, not many kids like that will be 3 stars. He's been offered by UK and UF now and Texas has contacte him. An article on SI said that UT is believed to be interested now, but I don't believe we've offered yet. I'm hoping we will though this kid seems to be legit and at 215 he should be able to get up to 230 pretty easily I would think. 6'7" 230 would be just fine in our system.

Golden was Mr. Basketball in Georgia. He might or might not be a 4 star when the rankings come out; if he does, it is more a function of who is offering him rather than him doing anything to deserve the higher ranking. We don't need a 6'7 210 lb PF in my opinion.

I don't think Golden's gonna drop all the way from the #55 prospect in the country to a 3* especially after averaging 30ppg against some of the best HS competition in the South and perhaps the country. I believe averaging 24 and 12 per game against that same competition is indicitive of what Thornton's capable of, which is why top-notch programs are now on him. UK, UF, Texas, Memphis they didn't offer the first go around why are they now? They missed him the first time around and now see that he's a legit prospect? Probably. There's no reason this kid can't get up to 230 and as another poster said, he's believed to be up to 6'8 or 6'9. Do you not think we could use a 6'9 230 lb PF? I sure do. You don't get offered by Cal, Donovan, Barnes, etc unless your capable of playing at this level. With Pearl's success in the ATL area, our proximity to there and three of your division foes (UGA, UF, UK) now in the discussion I don't think you can afford to not at least offer the kid.

P.S. Duke Crews was a fairly decent 6'7 PF and though we were perhaps better without him we can't say Tyler was a liability as a 6'7 PF.

I was referring to Thornton, not Golden. I just don't see it. We may offer and get the kid, but I think we would be settling for him rather than getting someone we really want.

can't speak for other schools but Florida's recruiting Thornton primarily as a SF, not a PF.

Yep. I guess you guys don't see him transitioning into a PF. Exactly the reason we shouldn't offer him. We should go get a legit post.

So y'all are recruiting Prather and Thornton as SF's? Not sure Thornton has the outside game to play the 3 but I guess we'll see where he ends up on the floor when it's all said and done.

i think he could make the transition to PF in the right hands but it's hard to see him as anything other than an undersized, face-up guy. you wouldn't want him playing man defense on shooting guards but he's got greater potential as a 3 with the athleticism to pull it off.

You're probably right; however, I don't think we need another tweener. We need a legit post not a hybrid.

actually Thornton is 3rd on the list.

6'6 Prather's intended to be a 3 but with his athleticism and progressing shot, the long term goal is to get him to be serviceable at shooting guard like our last uber-athletic SF Corey Brewer was. he was forced to play inside a lot in high school and is a tough rebounder and defender.

6'7 Will Yeguette is set to announce sometime today between Florida and GT. it'd be a bit of an upset if GT won his services. he's a rebounding machine and played mostly 4 in high school but his future is at 3 and that's what we're committed to making him into.

if Yeguette picks us we probably won't have scholarship space for Thornton because we're still waiting to see if 6'8 wing Adam Allen will be able to return from injury. though it's doubtful Thornton would want in if we land Yeguette, I think we would take him if we had scholarship room. most likely we'll end up with Yeguette and set our sights on Adonis Thomas for 2011 after Parsons graduates and we get clarification on Adam Allen's status.

it's pretty apparent Donovan's trying to transition the Gators into a physically imposing, tough rebounding squad across the entire frontcourt. thankfully with Parsons returning, Prather incoming and well-stocked power forward position if we land either Yeguette or Thornton they won't need to be relied upon heavily this coming season as they adjust to the finer points of the SF position. both need to work on their outside games but Donovan's got a great track record with teaching bigs to shoot.

Will Yeguette's LOI is in for Florida. Probably eliminates us from the Marcus Thornton sweepstakes.

I heard Scout says his top 3 are Kentucky, Memphis and Georgia. Any truth (links)?

I've heard that Calipari is going after him hard. I wonder if that's any indication that Cal doesn't feel great about Terrence Jones or Leslie. I don't see any way they whiff on Leslie and with him being thin as a rail Cal may see Leslie more as a 3 and Thornton as a somewhat undersized 4. I'd switch Memphis out with Bama. Read an article recently and his dad mentioned how much they like Coach Grant. I'm not counting Clemson out just yet either. His dad said they handled the whole releasement in a first class manner and they're still listening to them very much and want to hear from the new coach...well that has happened.

wouldn't look at it as an indication of them not getting either Jones or Leslie. Kentucky's simply hurting for warm bodies capable of playing any sort minutes inside. all they've only got is Kanter right now and while he looks the part of a potentially great player, he can't play 40 minutes per game at two separate spots on the floor.

Pastner being a very good recruiter and Jelan Kendrick helping recruit his former teammate seems to be the reason Memphis is in his top 3.

Memphis and Florida officially out of the running.

What’s the latest with Thornton’s list of colleges? Has he narrowed down any?

Thornton is considering seven schools — Georgia Tech, UGA, Clemson, Alabama, Kentucky, Texas, and Michigan — after Florida’s exit, his father Billy confirmed to the AJC on Tuesday afternoon. Thornton has also ended flirtations with Memphis, where his former high school teammate Jelan Kendrick signed.

Georgia Tech’s Paul Hewitt has chance to make last impression on AJC’s Mr. Basketball during Wednesday in-home recruiting visit | Prep Zone: High School Sports
