Mark Fox quote

The same players that were suppose to finish 11th in the SEC? I guess Fox picked them to be 2nd.

Seriously...Fox is a nobody and will be replaced with an even more terrible coach. UGA will never be anything more than a middle of the pack SEC team.

You know good and well he said that to protect his image. He said that to be media friendly. Its coach talk. I don't believe he thinks that at all.

Its to let recruits in Georgia hear it. Pearl made a living getting kids out of Georgia. He wants pontential recruits to believe Cuonzo will struggle and might as well stay in Georgia. If Fox was a relevant coach then he wouldnt have to give backhanded compliments.

A Vandy fan with an elitist, education-based insult, two days after having it handed to them on the court. I never would have imagined.

I still find it hilarious that Stallings had his most experienced and talented team in 13 years and still couldn't sweep UT when it was arguably at its lowest point talent wise in the last 6 years and one of the least talented in those 13 years.

What he said is sort of true. Pearl definitely had decent players . . . but he ignores the amount of production that left last year and the fact that there was only 1 returning starter.

EXACTLY. There wasn't much left after last season.

Someone should remind coach Fox that we could (in an orange world) have had Scottie and Tobias both back this year! Not saying we don't good players now, we do! But we lost our best two in the off season.

Side note: I would have loved to see what CCM could have done with Scottie over a year. Although Cuonzo was a PG, he was 6'6, and sounds a lot like he and SH favored each other with the sharp shooting. I think he really could have polished him up some.

I can almost guarantee you that Mark Fox wouldn't have gone 10-6 with this group.

He has finished 5-11, 9-7 and 5-11 in the SEC the last 3 years. That's last place in the SEC East, 3rd place in the East and next to last in the entire SEC.

Maybe Mark needs better players or to coach up what he has.
Fox has recruited some good players, just hasn't put things together jet. Not sure he will in the long run.

We probably won't have to worry what Fox says too much longer. He might get lucky and make it through this year, but no way he gets through next. See ya.

Why bother firing him? Does anyone at UGA really care how the basketball team does?

For whatever reason GA has had little interest in upgrading their basketball program and that is a godsend for us. Stegeman Coliseum is a dump and an embarrassment to the SEC (Fox left one of the finest on-campus arenas behind at the U of Nevada, btw).

Like somebody else said, he probably made that remark because CCM has already exceeded his (Fox's) own rebuilding effort out of the gate. But I'll be more than willing to cut him some slack if Fox would send MSU packing Thursday nite (and possilby out of the running for an at-large bid).

CCM was not a PG.

Fox is the best game/Xs and Os coach in the conference. He's just not that great of a recruiter. He had a good year with the old coach's recruits, but who knows if he'll have any success down the road. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Donte Williams are impressive players.

What he said was true. He didn't need to say it, but it's not like this team is a bunch of scrubs. Martin has done a great job with it, though.

For the record, I think Fox would go about 9-7 with this group.

Cuonzo went 10-6. How does the best X's and O's coach in the conf do worse than that?

I think you're crazy. He had Trey Thompkins and Travis Leslie last year along with Robinson and still only went 9-7.

And zero depth, which is being exposed this year.

And whose fault is that? The coach is supposed to recruit to fill needs. He wasn't working under any restrictions. Martin had the fallout of the Pearl fiasco and the NCAA ready to lower the boom. If you can't see beyond that, then no one can help you.

If you think Fox could've taken this team to a 10-6 record then you and only a small fraction of the human population think so. Fox is a decent X's and O's coach, but he sure as hell should've finished better than 9-7 in the SEC last year and he should've done better than one and done in the NCAA's.

Like I said, he's not a great recruiter. And, while he inherited the Georgia program under no restrictions, that program was a complete dumpster fire when he got there. Tennessee's current roster has a lot of talent, and it's not like Martin is winning with nothing. However, it's impressive nonetheless, which was really Fox's point, imo.

Fox isn't going to be fired anytime soon. An NCAA bid at Georgia gets you a few years of slack at a program like Georgia. They couldn't care less about basketball over there.

Why, then, may I ask, were they picked for an 11th place finish in the conference? I also disagree that Fox is the best Xs and Os coach in the SEC, as UGA has not shown that whatsoever in his time there...
