Mark Fox quote

Why, then, may I ask, were they picked for an 11th place finish in the conference? I also disagree that Fox is the best Xs and Os coach in the SEC, as UGA has not shown that whatsoever in his time there...
The chaos of Pearl leaving and the departure of Harris and Hopson. Also, that prediction wasn't including the addition of Stokes. I'm not denying the great job Martin has done here, but some people are acting like this Tennessee team is a bunch of scrubs. Not true, at all.

Well, I'll agree to disagree about Fox. I think he's a great basketball mind, but not so much a great recruiter. They've beaten some teams that they shouldn't have this year with their current talent level (their roster is completely depleted outside of Ware, Robinson, and KCP), like Notre Dame, Tennessee, Mississippi State, and Florida. I don't know if he'll ever get Georgia to the next level, but I think he'd be very successful at a place with a built-in recruiting base. Georgia isn't that for basketball.

Fox is the best game/Xs and Os coach in the conference. He's just not that great of a recruiter. He had a good year with the old coach's recruits, but who knows if he'll have any success down the road. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Donte Williams are impressive players.

What he said was true. He didn't need to say it, but it's not like this team is a bunch of scrubs. Martin has done a great job with it, though.

For the record, I think Fox would go about 9-7 with this group.

I wish Tennessee had some of his recruits.

Atlanta is probably 2nd to Memphis in HS basketball talent.

Seriously?

I meant UGA itself, not the state. UGA isn't the first choice for those five-stars coming out of Atlanta; it hasn't been for a while. It's similar to Tennessee's status in Memphis. They don't get many of the elite players from Atlanta, like Tennessee doesn't get many of the elite players from Memphis.

The difference is Cuonzo is smart enough to play one of those players, Maymon. Pearl had him playing behind his son. That needs to be acknowledged.

That is absolutely unfathomable knowing what we know now. Pearl playing over MAymon. Wow!!!!!! Incredible.

A Vandy fan with an elitist, education-based insult, two days after having it handed to them on the court. I never would have imagined.

As ZJC said, Stokes DISGRACED Ezili (sp?, although I really don't care). Dude looked like he wanted to quit. Can't wait to make it back to back wins over candy ass Vandy, IF Vandy is lucky enough to make it to the semi-finals. Vandy has lost the last 2 times in the semi-final game. If they play us, looks like it will be three in a row.

Georgia is loaded with instate talent. How I'd that not a built in recruiting base?

Did I somehow miss Atlanta being relocated to another state? There is a plethora of basketball talent out of ATL every year. Lack of a decent recruiting base should never be an excuse uttered by a Georgia football or basketball coach imo.

Go VOLS!

Like I said, he's not a great recruiter. And, while he inherited the Georgia program under no restrictions, that program was a complete dumpster fire when he got there. Tennessee's current roster has a lot of talent, and it's not like Martin is winning with nothing. However, it's impressive nonetheless, which was really Fox's point, imo.

Fox isn't going to be fired anytime soon. An NCAA bid at Georgia gets you a few years of slack at a program like Georgia. They couldn't care less about basketball over there.

Well unfortunately for Fox, recruiting is part of the job. He'd be screwed in Knoxville because there isn't talent in the backyard like there is in Athens being just down the road from Atlanta.

I think Fox is a good X's and O's coach. I just don't think he could've gotten what Martin got out of this bunch. And let's don't get crazy with the "UT has a lot of talent". This team still has a ton of flaws. Golden was learning on the job as a PG. We still are not a good ball handling team. Our wings are inconsistent and we have a player starting that should be playing his Sr year in high school. Add in only one returning starter and every other player was nothing but a role player last year and that is why most people predicted UT to finish 11th.

Hell, I would've been happy with somewhere in the middle of the pack because I thought that was about as realistic as you could get. Even Martin said he would be lying if he said he thought this team was going to go 10-6.

Players improve a lot from season to season at the college level......maymon demonstrated some skill last yr but has learned how to play under control this yr. He was a TO a minute last season.

"Counzo (Martin) did a great job, but they didn't fire Bruce (Pearl) because he had bad players."

Is Mark Fox a little jealous of Cuanzo?

He had talented players. Talent is great, if you can develop it. How much better did Hopson get in his three years here? How much better has this team gotten since the start of the season? Yes, Stokes provided a big spark, but look at individual player improvement. That's coaching.

If not for CCM's coaching, they would be a bunch of scrubs. His discipline is what has made this team. It started with D and is now carrying over to the O. Personally, I think you sound a little butt hurt from the ass beatings we've handed you.
