Marlin Lane - Heisman 2013

Lane won't be the starter next year IMO. Neal really improved throughout the season and with another off season to learn under coach Graham I expect him to take another step forward next year. He's got all the tools and is running behind an extremely talented and experienced offensive line. I think he can and will have a big year for us next year. Lane will be a very good backup for us next year, he is also a talented guy and really progressed throughout the season as well but I don't think he supplants Neal. I'm really excited to see what those two guys can do for us next year. We really need them to step up and help take some of the pressure off of our new QB. We need to get back to smash mouth football and we've got the horses to do it.

I really like Lane and I hope he and Neal put up huge numbers in a very successful 2013 season but this is crazy.

Are you the guy that started the Bray for Heisman thread last year?

I saw Neal play in person at the Wyoming game that severely depressed me. I was impressed for him to have done so averagely well for his first time out at 18 in a rancid offensive system.
On the other hand when his time came, and I am more excited about this lane guy who just subbed in and isn't falling down every time a finger nail grazes his laces. That didn't raise my love for him. Neal has great hands and we should pass to him out of the backfield, because he also has excellent awareness of the sideline.
This is the way I see it though. Lane is more nimble. Doesn't go down as easily because he harder to grab. Yes Neal falls forward when hit but let's face it. With those last two statements an the spread, I believe it is a pretty good assumption that the best route is lane first, with Neal ramming down there gullets when they are tired or short yardage scenarios arise.

Lane will not win the heisman. I have not looked at the schedule but 2nd in the east is possible but improbable. I'm guessing third, but you never know. Look what Meyer did his first year after that joke zook.

That was painful to read

This is even less believable than Lache Seastrunk thinking he will bring home the hardware. Lane has to learn how to hold on to the football a little bit better and start putting up better numbers in big games to even be in consideration as one of the better backs in the league. This is cray :loco:

Heisman? No, hardly.

I would settle for a 1200 yard season and maybe 15 TDs. That would be more realistic assuming he can stay healthy for a whole season. That won't get him a ticket to NYC but we could use him to get at least a winning season (7-5).

Historically, players who are actually starters have a much easier time winning the Heisman than backups....just saying
