Marlon Walls playing DT?

Watch the the signing day vids. CEO compared him to Warren Sapp and the game video shown was Hargrave against the UT JV team. He was playing DT from what I can tell. We are fine at DE, CEO wants him to play DT. CEO specifically said when he recruited him he was 215-225. He's gotten massive since his time in prep school. Don't forgot also CEO said he was the #1 recruit out of the state of Tennessee in 2008. With his size and speed, watch out.

Walls, will be my "pick to click" in '09. I think the guy dominates the line with speed and size. They cant move him and they cant run around him. Marlon is my "new" favorite player. I gotta get past EB sooner or later, better sooner than later.

I'm sure he can add weight with the new S&T coach on board. It would be nice if he can play DT on passing downs.

Walls is already on campus I believe. Coach O was excited about him as well. Said something to the effect that he was big and quick and fast. I believe my brother said he heard that they were going to use him like Warren Sapp. I will have to call my brother and ask where he heard that but that is what he told me.

At the recruiting celebration Coach O said Warren Sapp came in as a 212 TE and grew to 300lbs. Marlon Walls was 230 last year and is 275+ now.

The guy is listed at around 260 and that's what his body looks like? That says a lot to me about Hargrave and their training program. He could stand to gain another 20+ pounds. if he has maintained his speed we'll have a Little/Freeny/Freak/Brown typge guy.

This guy looks like he could be a beast. Its one thing to weigh 260 pounds. Its another thing to weigh 260 pounds and not have any fat. And with his frame he looks like he could gain another 20 pounds of muscle. He could definitely be that quick 1-gap DT that thrives in the tennessee two defense, a la warren sapp or tommy harris.

According to a new article on Rivals, Marlon Walls has exploded to 6-4, 293 pounds thanks to the help of a personal trainer.

"I went from linebacker to defensive tackle in a hurry," Walls laughed. "I blew right by defensive end. But I feel like I am in the best shape of my life and when I was up there for the spring game, Coach O said I looked like I was 260 pounds."

Says he has one final class to take care of this month and then he will be in Knoxville for Summer School.

Well I talked with him at fan day and I'm 6'0. He wasn't 4" taller than me. Good guy tho!

walls will probably be all of 6-5 310 after he finishes growing and mark smith gets him eating and working like a d-tackle in my opinion he could be a starter by next year

The height/weight/40 times all change depending on where you look for the info. Many that are listed in HS lose 2" height when UT list them offically. Some get measured in HS with cleats and helments on. Most 40 times are done by coach and a stopwatch(human error). I agree somewhat with an earlier post, If our coach says it I will trust it more.

As long as he has maintained the incredible quickness and speed he had then 293 is a far more significant number than any between 6'0 and 6'4". Walls and Hughes pairing up to give UT its first elite DT combo in years is a very pleasant thought.

Two other notes on this. Even if he is 6-2 or 6-3 to me that is good height for DT. Isn't that Dan Williams height? Second I just want him on the field. He always has the intense look on his face like he wants to take someones head off. GOVOLS.

All I know is DT is starting to look like a position of strength instead of weakness. Depth is still a little bit of a problem, but I believe we are going to end up with some really solid DT's this year. Having Coach O teaching these guys is a big plus.
