Marlon Walls playing DT?

It will be a very good thing when we get back to that point where we say our DT are our strength. Looking at what we have and is coming in this year I believe we may see a couple more move form dline to oline if some of the current listed dt get playing time. Nelson is one I think of most maybe thomas

Per TennStud who claims to have spoken with Marlon's father:

After talking to Coach Orgeron, it was decided that it was best not to go to Knoxville as they had originally planned, to wait for clearing house approval. Marlon, naturally, is real disappointed. Now, as to what I could understand, Marlon had 4 courses which had to be approved by the clearing house. The clearing house has approved all of them except the last one. Marlon keeps calling the clearing house, they keep telling him everything is alright(?) but they won't give him a time, date, when that last course will be graded.

Stud puts a lot of info out there and most of it legit, but understand that he is the "Master of Panic".

He is a big part of this class. I think he would have seen the field this year. Hopefully all this works out. Coach O is considered one of the best at getting these kids qualified.

Yeah, but the work has already been done. It's up to the clearinghouse to clear his last class and he's in. Probably an online course if I had to guess.

Surely someone at UT would have made sure the Class would have been accepted before hand? I have to think this is just talk right now. I just don't see how if he passed everything he wouldn't get in. You know UT (Coaches, advisors) has told the kid exactly what he needs to do.

I would have thought this to be the case. They (UT) would have told him what he needed to do before hand in order to qualify.

It better not be an online course. That was outlawed last season by the SEC (see: Gerald Williams saga).

You must not have been paying attention to the UT compliance office the last few years. It's like a Chinese fire drill in that office.

I thought the Gerald Williams ordeal was because it was an online math course. I believe you can still take certain online courses.

Williams cleared to play by SEC, says he loves UT : Football : GoVolsXtra.com

At the heart of Williams’ appeal was a new SEC rule that requires junior college transfers who were non-qualifiers out of high school to pass two English and two math courses at a junior college to be eligible at an SEC school.

Williams took his final math class as a correspondence course at UT after arriving here this summer. The SEC rule, which went into effect Aug. 1, does not allow correspondence courses in core requirements to count toward an athlete’s eligibility.

You may be right (in terms of the math being a core requirement), but I just don't see the need for this group of compliance officers at UT to advise that.

Yeh I agree. I remember when that came out last August and I was blown away that someone at UT would not catch that.

Wow post from TennStud on Rivals. Says that he just got a call from Marlon's dad and he was hysterical and pleading for help with Marlon's situation. TFWIW.

I would be SHOCKED if all the paperwork has been processed through clearinghouse at this point for all our kids. Many times, the high schools send the wrong stuff in (in Gerald WIlliams case, that happened more than once). Some players have just finished their classes in last few weeks so it may not have been possible to get everything processed yet.

Don't know what Marlon's issue is and I am skeptical in believing anything rumored on message boards. I've seen too many kids jerked off practice field in August due to falling short in clearinghouse. Losing a couple of these kids before fall still would not be surprising to me.

Walls just finished a couple of on line classes and he has been waiting on them to post his grades and I think he is in the process of completing his final one.

Everything for Marlon is on track. I am not sure why he ever thought he was coming first session because I am not sure that was ever the plan.

If you recall, Myself and someone else right after me theorized that it was an online class that was holding him up. Seems that's the case. I see no reason he can't make in. He will be dominant for us at a position praying for big boddies.

Yeah, he could, and prolly will, have an immediate impact for us next year. If anything, we know he will be a leader.

Jac Smith and Kevin Revis are others that come to mind that love the Vols too. What got me about Walls was when he was asked about how he got ready to play he said "I look my teammates straight in the eye and make sure they are ready to play too" That gets me pumped up so much.
