Martin doesn't 'waste time and energy' on chatter surrounding job security

Didn't Dooley say that same kinda thing(Vandy Presser) the day before he was fired?

Zo went from making $200K or so to $1.3+ M a year. To spell that out he has made the equivalent of 18 years worth of his former compensation in 3 years without accomplishing anything beyond what he did at the other school. With the buy out if he goes this year he gets another 7-8 years worth of his previous compensation. In which case he has made 25+ years of his former compensation in a little over 3 years.

So why should he get all bothered or excited about it? If he stays a 4th year he makes even more. He can do whatever he wants for the rest of his life and not have any financial worries for his family and grandchildren. UT made him a wealthy man.

In all fairness we can't compare him to Dooley. Dooley was a piece of **** person who belittled and degraded his players. They didn't want to play for him and he sucked as a coach.

Martin is a strong person. He is a high moral and character model for his players. He certainly isn't the best basketball coach and I'm as disappointed as the next fan in regards to the underachieving season.

However, please don't be disrespectful to him. He took the job with looming NCAA penalty clouds. He is a cancer survivor and does things the right way. He will be successful in life and he may just need a fresh start or different environment. Maybe at a smaller division.

But he isn't deserving of the **** talking people are doing. It just doesn't fit him as a person.. Kiffin, Dooley and Hamilton deserve it. Not that Hamilton is a bad human being. But because he nearly singlehandedly ruined UT athetics along the way....

One thing that gets me is the questions that they ask Martin are so mundane and lack any substance. There are not follow-up questions.

Why don't they make Martin be more specific on how he is making someone a better basketball player. What goes on in practice to make them better? Why do we not have a point guard? Why is there so little leadership on this team?

The press conferences are boring with the same mundane, lifeless, questions, and Martins same answers: "We just have to learn from it, stay strong, Barton is 0-200 but keep shooting, blah, blah, blah.

I never understood these type statements. Most, if not almost all, people want to continue to make money at the level (and more) that they are currently making. Everyone always wants more. To say that he is satisfied with the several million that he has made at UT is kind of ridiculous. He is in his 40's, so he won't stop working. I am pretty sure he doesn't want to get fired and have to take a $150k a year assistant job. Not only is that a huge pay cut but it's also a kick in the gut to your pride. Somehow, this will be spun as me supporting him because it's not. But I have found the argument that "coaches who get fired will be fine with all their money" to be dumb. No one wants to be fired no matter how much money they make.

Players seem to like Coach Martin and have represented UT well under him. I think the world of him as a person, but have doubts about his Xs Os preparing and live in games.
I hope he turns it around and wins the SECT, then our guys make a deep NCAA run. Not just to keep him around, but to get shocked and watch him have a long successful career here. Buttchagotta win when you have depth, experience, and talent as we do this year.

Please go preach this gospel to a congregation that wants to hear it. Maybe the martin family reunion?

CCM is lying off his arse on that. He's probably been thinking of his job security most of this season

Of course he is. But he also knows there's a lot of mid majors who need a mediocre coach or asst coach, so he's good. He'll land somewhere making something. And I've always loved how coaches in every sport hit the light switch and become a team's newest admirer. They learn the culture and traditions quicker than anything I've ever seen. In the real world that's been known as patronizing.
