as much as Disney is paying, and, as popular as these movies are, not sure I see a 'low-rent dumbass' character, or, a payday.

Not sure where Disney is pushing the MCU, certainly is interesting.

Maybe so, idk honestly. I just find it idiotic when people say marvel characters or movies are “low rent” or act as if it’s somehow beneath other films/characters just because it’s derived from comics. Which is what newt did originally, said “no way an actor like glover shills as some low rent marvel character”. Then when pointed out glover was in homecoming, it shifted to “yeah but he probably wouldn’t now, careers in a different place”. Then boom, glover announced in a marvel spin off film 😂

Still low rent. I guess he just likes money.

Compare Atlanta to a marvel movie.

Other than Guardians, they are about all a goofy CGI mess. There is a place for that, hell Ive watched about all of them but Scorsese is not wrong.

You know I think country music is some of the worst music I've ever had the misfortune of listenting to; you know what I don't do? Constantly post in country music threads how much it sucks.

So maybe it's "low rent" but apparently the whole genre lives rent free in your head.

What makes films like captain America winter soldier or infinity war considered “not cinema” as opposed to Scorsese films like the Irishman or Hugo? You wanna talk about goofy cgi mess, how about that whack de-aging cg in the Irishman, which wasn’t a good movie btw. Scorsese’s comments reek of sour grapes/jealousy watching marvel movies have some of the biggest box office numbers of all time. Just because the movies are derived from comic material doesn’t make it “low rent”. That’s just dumb movie snob bullsh**, same type of people who will automatically say any indie movie is amazing just because it’s indie even though deep down they didn’t even like it 😂

The CGI/de-aging in The Irishman was laughably bad.

Wow, that's some next level of lack of self-awareness. Avatar not only is a blatant ripoff of Pocahantas/Dances With Wolves storywise, the characters were as one-dimensional as you can get.

My kids were actually watching avatar earlier, they'd never seen it. I told them it wasn't very good 🤣

I watched it with my kids last weekend. They loved it. Although they said it wasn’t as good as Star Wars, MCU, Harry Potter, or LotR.

Cameron also just had a comment about how Avatar is different than Marvel movies because the problems in Avatar "are real life problems."

I just have to laugh at these guys now.

I don’t understand the butthurt some of these guys have. Especially when they are all buddy buddy with George Lucas.

Especially him when Avatar is really no different than most superhero movies now. It's a basic story (and I'd argue Avatar's story is even weaker than the average MCU movie) with mostly a crap ton of special effects. I listened to him on Smartless last week and it's like he created his own reality as to why his movies are different when they aren't....at all.

Plus outside of Titantic, the guy is known mostly for sci-fi. And even Titantic, it's Oscar noms aside, most people watched it because they wanted to see the ship break apart and at the time Leo was heartthrob #1.

I don't agree with Scorcese but at the least I think he has more of an argument from experience and reputation than Cameron. Cameron just really comes across as a giant hypocrite and detached from reality.

My almost-2-YO just had a Marvel Xmas and it's the most fun thing ever. He's totally obsessed with Captain America, Hulk, and Spiderman. How many generations of kids are going to be completely drawn to these characters? Stan Lee is the GOAT, right? Not just in the comic world, but in all of literature? Who else has put together a lineup of characters like this? Dickens? Shakespeare?
