An Illinois State football coach abruptly quit the team Thursday, leaving a note on the door while exiting the facility.

Kurt Beathard, who was the Redbirds’ offensive coordinator, told The Pantagraph he left a note that said “All Lives Matter to Our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ” before he left. Officials told the newspaper Wednesday he was no longer a part of the team and declined to comment on why he abruptly left.

His departure apparently followed an incident involving a “Black Lives Matter” poster in the locker room. Sources told The Pantagraph that the poster was taken down from the Illinois State locker room in the school’s football building. Beathard denied any involvement in the locker room saying that someone put a sign on his door and that he took that down.

I honestly am not feeling very confident that we can step back from the ledge here as it pertains to race relations in the US. Seeing a group of 20 black people come to the scene without any knowledge of what was going on and automatically begin yelling at the police once they realize the woman is black makes it clear that this isn't about right and wrong. This is "our team vs. your team" type blind loyalty based on skin color. By these current societal race rules of engagement, the proper number of black people allowed to be arrested for committing crimes without riots breaking out is zero. It just does not seem like there is an answer to this conundrum.

I think you are correct on the ability to hold lawless people responsible. It has become an automatic thing to attack police verbally while they interact with someone. I myself think if everyone would have remained calm that situation would be sorted fairly quickly. The screeching and drama gets amped up with an audience. Counterproductive.
