Mashack with 25 mins was 0-3 from 2, 0-3 from 3, and 0-2 from the line.

Dubar with 10 mins was 0-3 from 2 and 0-2 from 3 with just 1 rebound and 1 asist.

Neither really did any better against Arkansas.
(1-4 /0-0 / 1-2 FT and 0-3 / 0-1 respectively)

It's SEC time, boys.
Need to try to figure out how to contribute something offensively, or we are in trouble.

It’s one freaking game against one of the best teams in the nation. But continue the freak out 🙄
This general reaction was sooo predictable. 14-0, ranked #1, the negas were standing by to sow their seeds of hatred. It’s gonna be alright.

Give it until Thursday morning and they will have climbed back under their rocks.

Mashack is the best defender to ever play at Tennessee, and one of the best statistically in NCAA history.

We can get beat as we all saw tonight, but one guy getting hot isn’t going to beat us because Barnes will stop it with Mashack.

Clayton scored 33 against Kentucky, 27 against UVA, 25 against ASU. Mashack held him to 7 in 30 minutes.

I wish he’d score more too, and if he did, we’d be talking about a top 5 lottery pick. As he is though, he’s an incredible weapon we have to stop the best scorer on any team from beating us, and that has incredible value.

@chuckiepoo i usually agree with almost everything you post but for me it wasn’t the loss it was how they lost.

They had a terrible shooting night but they had no answers for Florida. No outside or midrange jumpers. Lane penetration wasn’t working. No inside game so no inside out. No great motion to create back door cuts. There was just nothing of substance.

I like Barnes but last night is what we have seen for most Barnes teams at UT. A dominant scorer who goes cold and no one else picks up the slack and Barnes has no answer.

So yes it was just one loss but is it indicative of a larger problem?

Larger problem?

Yeah winning 25+ games a year indicates a larger problem 🤭

I am flattered that you would ask, me. 😉

I don’t think there is necessarily a larger problem. Most of the more centered personalities on the forum and beat writers, tried to warn the more “volatile” among us there were SEC road losses out there waiting for even the cream of the conference this year.

The real issue, I believe, is our collective expectations had trended way up. Tough loss for sure, but most centered basketball fans noted the six Q1 victories Auburn already had in their back pocket, while we were only toting three.

This team still has room and potential to grow. I’ve never given up on my Vols, and doubt I ever will. Hope my perspective shared makes it a little easier to stomach the debacle we witnessed last night. Goodness gracious… 😉🤙🏼

A voice of reason among a very reactionary group of people. The team, collectively, had a horrendous night shooting. When these games happen the team looks much worse than they are. It was one game, on the road, and in a hostile environment. We had a ton of good looks that we missed, and then it snowballed. There will be more losses coming for us and everyone else. Expectations can be a bear for some people. Toss and flush and move forward.

You watched a historic loss and came away thinking that the problem is that fans talk about what they saw on a message board. Well, that and refs. You’re probably one of those who think the refs and fans are 95% to blame and the change in atmospheric pressure was the other 5%.

Next will be that Barnes has lost the locker room…

They also put him defending the post when the other guys were struggling. Amazing how he’s able to guard 1-5. The injured finger is clearly the source of the atrocious shooting night

Florida will come to TBA in February and we will beat them and all will be forgotten.

Here’s the thing. If fans complaining after a loss really bothers you, you just aren’t cut out for following sports. Watch the games and unplug after a loss, because people aren’t gonna act like losing is hunky dory. You will see things that upset you.
Repeating the same thing post after post isn't complaining. It's certainly not constructive criticism either. It's a twisted joy of bringing misery to a situation.

Mashack contributed a finger.

I think the finger definitely hurt. I also think this is the strategy for most teams going forward. I love Mashack but clearly he’s not much of a threat on the offensive end usually. Most teams will be thrilled if he’s volume shooting for us on most nights. Last night I think Florida was so up and excited the adrenaline they had was obvious IMO and they used it to steam roll us. Especially after we missed several wide open looks in the first 10 minutes of the game. JMO

If you read my post I mentioned 2 teams.
First two games in SEC play and essentially zero offensive production in regards.
My post wasn't "freaking out'. Trust me, you'll know when my post is freaking out.😀
It was simply an observation in the spirit of accountability. Something Barnes mentions ALL the time, btw. What I said was truth, and something I guarantee Barnes is probably not so nicely telling them.

To make it to the final 4 this year they will need to consistently be chipping in about 15 points between them.

One last thing of note,
If your goal this year isn't at least final 4 then maybe we just different team expectations.

I thought it was more the terrible post play of Milic mostly and Okpara , Philips than anything to do with two guys who don't score much anyway in Mashack and Dubar that got Tennesse killed
I thought Okpara probably played the best of anyone last night.
Mashack is an awesome defender no doubt.
Problem is you could have 5 Mashacks and you may hold a team to 25-30 points and still lose because you may not score 10 points.
You have to be at least somewhat balanced on offense and defense.
As far as Dubar, they need to figure out how to get him going. I believe he has a lot more to give offensively.
We need others to score to help take the pressure off of Chaz.
As awesome as Lanier is, we can't just count on him for all of our scoring, and if teams know they can just double team him with no consequences, it makes it really easy for good teams to gameplay against us

Here is what I saw last night.
Florida is a very good team. They were playing at home against a #1 team.
Tenn was ice cold shooting, taking basically the same shots they’ve taken this entire preseason. The game snowballed into mental lapses on both ends.
Here is what fans need to do.
Watch other games pitting good teams, not just the Vols. You will see the same things happening with others.
