Mashack and Dubar tonight

I'm sure Mashack's a good dude and gives his all everyday for UT.
That being said, expecting him to be a prolific scorer, or even score on a regular basis, is akin to my boss expecting me to be productive.
He knew when he hired me that I'm a slacker and I meet these expectations daily.
Barnes knew when Mashack signed what kind of skill set he has and what he's capable of.
Expecting more of him is unrealistic, IMO.

It’s one freaking game against one of the best teams in the nation. But continue the freak out 🙄
Worse loss by a No. 1 team since 1968. When TN decides to lose they always make a statement it seems. They are making fun of TN again all over the internet. Comes with being a TN fan for over 60 yrs.

Mashack with 25 mins was 0-3 from 2, 0-3 from 3, and 0-2 from the line.

Dubar with 10 mins was 0-3 from 2 and 0-2 from 3 with just 1 rebound and 1 asist.

Neither really did any better against Arkansas.
(1-4 /0-0 / 1-2 FT and 0-3 / 0-1 respectively)

It's SEC time, boys.
Need to try to figure out how to contribute something offensively, or we are in trouble.
Great info but I think it’s a matter of them not on the court at the same time

I am flattered that you would ask, me. 😉

I don’t think there is necessarily a larger problem. Most of the more centered personalities on the forum and beat writers, tried to warn the more “volatile” among us there were SEC road losses out there waiting for even the cream of the conference this year.

The real issue, I believe, is our collective expectations had trended way up. Tough loss for sure, but most centered basketball fans noted the six Q1 victories Auburn already had in their back pocket, while we were only toting three.

This team still has room and potential to grow. I’ve never given up on my Vols, and doubt I ever will. Hope my perspective shared makes it a little easier to stomach the debacle we witnessed last night. Goodness gracious… 😉🤙🏼
Preach on my man...can't add anything to that.

Yep, one bad game means we are cooked for the season. Another poster that can't wait to crow about the first blemish of the year. Can't understand why this mindset is so popular.

You watched a historic loss and came away thinking that the problem is that fans talk about what they saw on a message board. Well, that and refs. You’re probably one of those who think the refs and fans are 95% to blame and the change in atmospheric pressure was the other 5%.
Your response to @chuckiepoo and what he wrote really missed the mark in what you surmised that he said. My goodness, have the reasonability to go back and take a look at what you wrote.

Florida will come to TBA in February and we will beat them and all will be forgotten.
I view it like when A&M punked us at A&M last year. When they came back to Knoxville, we need them by 31. I think we could certainly do the same.

I'm not willing to give Florida that much credit. They didn't make us miss uncontested layups and wide open 3s, or free throws for that matter. That's not even mentioning all of the friendly bounces that went their way. They probably had 6-7 balls that had no business going in that went in anyway, and they still only scored 70 points.

If you read my post I mentioned 2 teams.
First two games in SEC play and essentially zero offensive production in regards.
My post wasn't "freaking out'. Trust me, you'll know when my post is freaking out.😀
It was simply an observation in the spirit of accountability. Something Barnes mentions ALL the time, btw. What I said was truth, and something I guarantee Barnes is probably not so nicely telling them.

To make it to the final 4 this year they will need to consistently be chipping in about 15 points between them.

One last thing of note,
If your goal this year isn't at least final 4 then maybe we just different team expectations.
Expecting a final for for this team is a bit much. Hoping and seeing it as something that could realistically happen? Sure. We only have 10 Scholarship players on roster. 1 is out for the season so 9. We were thin at the post BEFORE Estrella was lost. Phillips being dinged up did not help the situation. This is a team that cannot sustain serious injuries at pretty much any position except for wing. ZZ, Lanier and fill-in-the-blank post player goes down for any period of time we are boned. There is no player on our bench that should be starting and if thosep layers are having to start then it means we are playing their backup or playing another starter out of position. In this case Mashack having to play more minutes than normal in the post. This game we had to make up for 12-13 minutes of Cade in the post (he normally plays 16-17 mins a game) against a team with a lot of length.... it looks like the reply was to go small giving Gainey extra wing minutes and mashack more minutes in the post instead of on the wing. Mashack CAN guard 1-5 on switches...for short periods of time he ain't gonna hold up for extended periods against big bodies.

Florida got 80 minutes from 4 guys 6'8 or better. That combo produced 33 rebounds 25 points
Tennessee got 71 minutes for 4 guys over 6'4. Cade had 3 of those. That combo produced 16 rebounds 16 points

We got roasted in the post and we couldn't stop their bench. Their bench outscored ours 25-7. Its not even like they just ran over us offensively.. they shot 30% from 3 and under 40% from the field... our bench was 1-15. .we sat back and bricked jumpers instead of attacking inside... because size kills us.

As much as I like Shack, these are garbage numbers and unacceptable.
It's frustrating, especially with all of the work he put in over the summer on his shooting, but if we don't accept it, what does that mean? Do we remove our best defender from the court? Who gets his minutes?

Here’s the thing. If fans complaining after a loss really bothers you, you just aren’t cut out for following sports. Watch the games and unplug after a loss, because people aren’t gonna act like losing is hunky dory. You will see things that upset you.
The flip side of that is if you can’t stomach a loss without losing your mind, you probably shouldn’t be watching the games at all. It’s not hunky dory, but in the big picture it’s really not that big a deal. Making yourself and others miserable isn’t worth it.

Horrible. Mayshack should be released. His d is all he's got. If that's Barnes thinks that's enough. He needs to evolve again
