Faithfully
For all the physical gifts Barkley possesses, his greatest gift is his faith.
Barkley, a devout Christian, is at peace. He knows one play, one injury, could end his football career, but relies on his faith to pull him through uphill battles.
"I'm grateful for all the gifts the Lord has blessed me with," Barkley said. "I look forward to attending church each week."
Barkley, who attends Rock Harbor Church, a nondenominational Christian congregation in Costa Mesa, has two playbooks, the more noteworthy one being the Bible.
He favors several chapters from Proverbs, saying they teach wisdom. Proverbs covers a broad scope of human and divine activity, ranging from matters purely secular to lofty moral and religious truths.
"Get wisdom, get understanding," reads Proverbs 4:5.
"We're taught to trust Him and acknowledge Him; it's inspiring," Barkley said.
Barkley's parents and his faith keep him grounded.
"His Christian walk really drives him," Les Barkley said.
Les, who co-owns an insurance business with his brother in-law, invokes Ephesians 3:14-19 when explaining the basis of his family's faith.
"May He strengthen you inwardly through the working of his spirit; may charity be the root and foundation of your life," Les Barkley said, paraphrasing the New Testament epistle.
"Being a young person isn't easy. There are so many pressures for today's teens. My wife [Beverly] and I tell our three children, you can find strength in these verses."
Matt Barkley may not wear his faith on his sleeve -- he prefers to let his actions speak for him -- but he does profess his faith through music. He plays acoustic guitar with a church youth group and is enthused with the results.
A Taylor 400 series is his instrument of choice. He favors Christian rock bands Audio Adrenaline and Third Day but also is a huge fan of U2.
This would be the biggest thing in the UT recruiting world since Peyton Manning.
I totally disagree with you. I would like to know why you think Barkley is so much better.
Boyd would do so much more for us at qb than Barkley.
I've watched a few vids of Barkley. It looks to me that his receivers are always running wide open and his offensive line lets nothing through to him. He has time to plant, drop the ball down to the side of his hip and then chuck it downfield. Barkley's throwing motion is horrific compared to Boyds'
I am guessing that you think Barkley is better because he appears to have a stronger arm. I don't think that is the case, his motion allows him to put more leverage on the ball but it is a very slow and low starting release that just isnt going to cut it.
Boyd is able to throw the ball while getting hit low... If a defender is being blocked low and they get a hand anywhere near Barkley's waist they are going to force fumbles. Barkley practically lays the ball out behind him on a silver platter for defenders to take from him before he gets rid of it.
Boyd is the man, I hope we get him. He reminds me of VY only with better accuracy, touch and a heck of a lot better throwing motion.
I may be the guy who posted it from another thread. I heard it from sports animal Hubbs was discussing it with a caller. Kiffin and Barkely have some form of relationship. Barkely was quoted as saying he would check UT out if Kiffin was there. What it is worth? I have no idea.
I found another source JMBIGORANGE up there said he was coming in December on another blog. He said he got that source from his Wiki page. And the wiki page said sources close to Kiffin. So there it is. Have no idea if it is true.
where'd you read/hear this?
if it is true about him coming, and he is out of official visits, it would seem like he must be sincere in his interest...being that he would have to pay for the trip out of pocket. Either that, or he has been dying to come have his toe's done at alimony's.
