Matt Johnson and Co.

Meanwhile, Georgia is at Vandy, showing just how one-dimensional their offense is.

We win this game tonight, get strong momentum going for the Florida game, and we have a favorable route to Atlanta.

p.s. Grats, BGSU friends, on a very nice game. Will continue cheering for your success all year! MAC Championship game for you!
Agreed. Classy fans. Rooting for them.

I would just like to throw out some stats on Matt Johnson in case someone hasn't seen it yet. He is the NCAA FBS leader in passing by a large margin.

Name Team G QBRat Att Comp Pct Yds Y/G Y/A TD Int Sack YdsL
Matt Johnson BGSU 2 157.9 104 63 60.6 915 457.5 8.8 8 1 7 -48
Patrick Mahomes II TX Tch 2 164.4 86 51 59.3 786 393.0 9.1 8 1 0 0

ESPN has Matt Johnson at #27 in the country, with a QBR of 75.3. #1 is Chad Kelly of Ole Miss, with a 94.3 QBR. There is one QB we will face this season with a higher QBR to date: #14 Brandon Allen, Arkansas, 81.6

Focusing purely on passing component of the ratings, Matt Johnson is #2 in the nation, behind Drew Hare of Northern Illinois. So pretty darn effective. Brandon Allen is #6 on that list.

But all these ratings we're looking at are based on performances in a very limited number of games (two, specifically). And the quality of opponents in a 2-game season is going to vary widely. Which means current comparisons can be hugely misleading.

Is Matt Johnson the best QB we'll see all year long? He may not even be the best we've seen so far. Our defense completely wrecked the stats for Baker Mayfield, but that young man is a stud at QB. I think most folks would be hard pressed to put Matt Johnson significantly ahead of him as a player. Maybe even not as a passer. They are both very good.

Definitely feel a little better about our game vs BG. Especially given AU and Arky's performances last week.

Baker Mayfield may end up being the better QB, but the level of competition he will face vs Matt Johnson will be a huge difference. I was looking at this from a pure yardage standpoint. I expect Matt Johnson to be the highest yardage QB in the NCAA this year. He is currently well ahead of all of the other FBS QBs.

Dino Babers essentially runs the Baylor offense so expect BGSU to be near the top in passing at the end of the year.

This is not a one time occurrence. The guy racked up top 20 yardage two years ago and only played 1 game last year. He threw for over 300 yards in that game too.

Damn. I'm a fan of this kid now. 22/31 276 yds and 2 tds in the first half against Memphis.
