Matt Jones says UK basketball in "complete disarray"

That and he lacks quickness.

He can’t space the floor compared to other bigs.

His style of play just doesn’t work well in the NBA anymore.
He has a couple elite qualities. But he is below average with the qualities that big men must have to play in the NBA today. Quickness and explosiveness are below NBA average. And he has no perimeter shot. Him defending the perimeter the way NBA teams run offense would be extremely difficult for him.

He has a very good 17’ shot - is that not considered perimeter?

You really think NBA centers would be forced to be concerned with him once he got more than 15 feet from the rim? Come on......

center could stay at home. He could be picked up by basically any wing player and lots of guards at his height.

I have no clue. Clearly the nba folks didn’t think enough of his skill set to invest a draft pick.

My response was to your declaration that he had “no perimeter shot” yet he consistently hit the 17 footer. TIFWIW

Nobody would want him to shoot that shot in the NBA unless he can hit something like 60%. 60% isn't too wild close to the rim, where it's worth 2 points, but if you're already shooting from 17 you might as well shoot from 23.

Seems relevant to the conversation. The NBA is Dominated by guards with strong handles that shoot the 3, and versatile 7 footers.

Only 2 players on that list who don’t meet one of those 2 archetypes (Redick and Demar). But Redick has the shooting and Demar has the handle.

Fwiw, Barttorvik doesn’t see Mitchell as much of a gain for Kentucky. They move up a few spots, nothing major. He also had his best games against the bottom tier of the conference. Struggled against the good defensive teams.

Mitchell is merely a poor man's version of Oscar T.

Not even close in terms of actual production. Like I said, poor man's version. I used OT because that is who he will be tasked with replacing. His actual numbers are more Nkamhoua-like.
For our sake, that sounds much better. I’m just glad we are done with OT. Finally get a shot at some rebounds without over the back

They are complaining that they got Miami in the ACC/SEC challenge, claiming it is because of their decline. Nevermind Miami made the FF last year and will be preseason top 10 this year. Morons!

Looks like Somto Cyril is heading to Kentucky but will not reclassify for 2023. The article below makes it sound like UK really needs an interior presence for this season. I don't follow their roster enough to know if this is the case.

Kentucky basketball lands all-world 4-star recruit, but with dose of cold water (msn.com)

One part of the article I thought was funny it said Cyril is raw but alluded to Calipari's strength with developing players.
