Matt Rhule to Nebraska (now it’s official)

This is a home run hire for Nebraska.

Frost was a home run hire when his stock was at its highest. Rhule is coming off a dumb decision to jump to the pro’s and flaming out.

i get the reason for optimism for his hire but he’s clearly down trending walking into a wasteland job.

On the plus side, there is clear void of leader in the Big Ten West so maybe he can start to take ownership of that division. Lord knows PJ Fleck has been given year after year to take that division with 2-3 losses and still can’t.

They need a good recruiter to build physical brand. They will never be what they were in 80s and 90s in today's climate. However getting back to solid trenches and physical running game. But defense upgrades for sure. I think he can do that and let's face it the Big 10 west is bad so depending on what they do with USC and UCLA Rhule can get them competitive on occasion even with those additions.

With a lot less evidence backing the statement. He’s built two programs…quickly.

Also while being a current free agent due to him being a disaster in the NFL. I know i know i know the pro’s are a different animal but he obviously has to rebuild himself and philosophy at a cellar program. What’s funny is had he stayed at Baylor instead of bolting for Carolina, he likely lands the OU opening lol

Baylor AND Temple were “cellar” teams before his arrival. Won’t overuse Saban as the reference point on college and pro zoology. How about Pete Carroll and Urban Meyer. What works for him in spades at the college level failed him as a mercenary. He’s a proven commodity.

I understand but he’s coming to this job not off a promotion (smaller job to bigger one) but off a firing and failure in yes a bigger profession. However, he also had glaring locker room issues among his staff, not the paid athletes and “divas” that can be a turn off. All I’m saying is he’s taking a big step back in his career and Nebraska will prolly be a tougher job than anything he did at Temple or Baylor. That’s all I’m saying.

Best of luck to him Nebraska is turning into a graveyard for coaches. I don’t think Nebraska will ever be relevant on national stage again it’s a hard sell to recruits especially African-Americans

Easy does it. Let’s come back to this in two years and see what the trend is. Rhule had tons of talent in Texas and border states. Been pretty hard to recruit to Nebraska lately.

Doubt Nebraska has less resources…allz I’m saying. We’ll revisit in a couple when he’s the top name on every big wish list.

I have to agree with @butchna on this one- Rhule was impressive at Baylor.
That program seemed as good as dead after Briles left and with the administration in melt-down mode. I imagine @BUBear can tells us more about the depths to which the program had fallen. Remember, the word "rape" was often used when discussing Baylor during the early part of Rhule's tenure.
Rhule took Baylor from 1-11 in 2017, the Texas Bowl in 2018, and 11-3 in 2019.

A few days ago people were reporting he turned Nebraska down and would probably sit it out this cycle. Online sources say Nebraska is working on this, not that it is done. Has there been an official announcement? I will be surprised if it happens.
