Matt Rhule to Nebraska (now it’s official)

If I was him I would go to Auburn.
He may not have wanted to get into the shark infested waters of SEC. He also has Midwest recruiting experience. Nebraska likely will never be what they were but this is probably a better fit for Rhule in my opinion.

Good for him having the good sense to stay away from Auburn and all it's mess.

It looks like Auburn is going after Hugh Freeze. That's a good fit. Both are slimy as hell.

Good for them, I hope he gets them turned around...Those poor fans have suffered as much if not more than we have the past 15 years or so.

I have to agree with @butchna on this one- Rhule was impressive at Baylor.
That program seemed as good as dead after Briles left and with the administration in melt-down mode. I imagine @BUBear can tells us more about the depths to which the program had fallen. Remember, the word "rape" was often used when discussing Baylor during the early part of Rhule's tenure.
Rhule took Baylor from 1-11 in 2017, the Texas Bowl in 2018, and 11-3 in 2019.
Three things for certain. 1) Rhule will find under the radar football players, 2) he is already applying for NFL jobs and 3) his wife will hate Lincoln Nebraska 👍

He will still try for an NFL job despite his performance at Carolina? Seem plausible given what I have heard about his ego.

If you think 47-43 in college and 58-70 overall is a good coach you must have really liked Dooley.
Stupid hire

First off, including his NFL record is moronic. Secondly, his overall record in college is deceiving because he took over two trash programs that took time to rebuild. Now it may not work out in the end because Nebraska is facing some headwinds that they weren’t 20-25 years ago, but on paper, it’s a very good hire.

Boy, Pete Carroll’s first NFL stint really showed he would be a bad college coach
Rhule is 2-16 against ranked teams. He's not great. He's really not even mediocre. Not sure why you want to defend a loser. You must have been a Butch fan

Record with context doesn’t mean anything. Nick Saban was 34-24-1 at Michigan State before he got hired at LSU. He turned okay I’d say. Matt Rhule took a 1-11 team and in year 3 went 11-3. How is that not impressive?

I literally used Butch as a point to show that records can be deceiving.

What perennial winner should Nebraska have hired?

"Coach XYZ doesn't win every single game, and has never won or almost won a national title, so that means he sucks" is a pretty common view here.

Lots of people in this forum think that Saban is the only good coach in CFB, but even he's overrated.

Outside of Michigan, Ohio State (and possibly Penn State) the BIG 10 isn't so great either. Nebraska should watch their back because Rhule would drop them like a hot potato if the Penn State job should possibly become available.

It's a great hire for Huskers but same was said about Frost although I think Rhule is a much better coach than Frost.
