Maui Invitational Game(s) thread

Why? They have scoring options all over, are more athletic than theyve been in years and are big as hell. Best team they've had in ages. They might not get it done, but this squad has to be the big favorite.

I meant to say I think they will. Tonight Pullen has just sucked and forced a bunch of shots and Kelly's in his first game. They'll get it all figured out eventually.

What the heck is up with Kentucky's post? Did Josh Harrellson have an identical twin that no one knew about? If he can keep cleaning the glass along with marginal help from Vargas, Kentucky just might be okay. It appears that Jones is just going to be a stud all around including the glass. Kanter may not be as missed as I had thought.

Now that Kanter has been cleared to practice, reports say that he is pushing Harrellson harder than ever, and he is responding somewhat. Josh also made some bone head plays tonight, and was very soft on several crucial plays under the goal. However, his rebounding overall was a key factor. Although they have a great shot blocker, Washingtons bigs are not that impressive. Tomorrow against UConn will be a huge test, as they are much more physical on the block.

Perhaps not more talented, perhaps without similar results, but a better team than last year. This is a Calipari team.

Washington played right into UK's strength. You all are obviously excellent in the open floor. The question I have is how do you guys respond in a halfcourt slugfest? If you can handle that, you guys are going to be scary good.

So far, I think thats actually the difference between this years team and last years. Last year, we either tried to work the post or settle for a long three or drive by Wall. This years half court game is much more refined and reliable. The DDM is actually taking place, and Jones, Knight, Miller and Liggins are all getting to the paint at will. If we could shoot free throws at a decent clip, we would have won this game by 15 points.

The biggest difference I see with this team compared to last, is that they do not go stale or struggle to find continuity in the half court game. They get into the offense, and attack. Nothing timid about this bunch. However, the half court game does begin to struggle when Knight is on the bench, as evidenced tonight when washington made that 26-12 run to tie it back up. Also, we obviously still lack the post game to be scary though, and that will continue to rear its ugly head.

John is going to absolutely love coaching this bunch. They are a more skilled version of his UMASS teams. Also, Terrence Jones is Derrick Coleman, Redux. He'll be as good as he chooses to be.

I think its a little early for that comparison. Definitely has some traits though.

Good game last night and a good win for coach Cal's young team. By the time these young men get finished with camp cal they will be a scary and will have a good chance to run deep in the tourney.

And oklahoma has reached a new low.

The 4pm cst michigan state/u-dub game is a good game to kick off three days of sports watching laziness too.

Michigan State sucking it up on the defensive end, again. Izzo will let them know about it once they make it to the main land.

Also, the season is young, but I'm already tired of Jimmy Dykes. He's informative, but the analogies and ways he goes about explaining things make me want to mute him.

Until he became totally ESPNized and started littering his analysis with catchphrases, Dykes was as good a color commentator as there was in college basketball.

Still solid, just pop culture annoying now.

He has great insight. Most do not know that he was once an assistant on Kentucky's staff. As you say, just to much crap mixed in. The young kid with him is unfortunately an idiot, forever and always.

Wichita State salvages their trip to the island. Virginia isn't very good, but they'll help your strength of schedule.

Well, as soon as the Miami Heat finish losing another game, its time to get this show on the road. UK has to find a way to hold their own on the post tonight, on both ends of the floor.

Should be a great game. Thankful I'm able to stay up to see this one.

Side note - I can't decide if I like jay wright's suit or not.
