Maybe we should focus on being a run-oriented offense.

Like Bear Bryant use to do. We certainly have enough running backs, either this or focus on being a run option team. Either or.
No we just need to run a little more. We still want to be balanced. While the screen gets us yards sometimes and we still need to use it, I still think we get to screen happy at times. I think we need to cut back on screens just a little and run a little more. Also the wheel routes and some misdirection runs like Florida used against us would be a nice wrinkle. With squirrel and all our running backs that would be a nice wrinkle. Need to keep working tight ends in there too. And continue to keep going vertical when the opportunity is there. GBO

I think we need to quit pretending like we know more about offensive strategy than Josh Heupel. We had the #1 offense in CFB last year and we have the #1 rushing offense in the SEC this year. The WR screens are a core component of our offense. They serve to spread the field horizontally, opening more holes for the RBs and they lure DBs closer to the LOS, so we can get behind them for long throws in the passing game. Nobody dials up more passing TDs than Josh Heupel (although Milton has missed several of them) and he does so while leading the SEC in rushing but we’ve got geniuses here that think our offensive scheme sucks. Hopefully Mays is back 100% and we see marked improvement from the IOL, because we do need to improve running between the tackles.

Jaylen Wright & Jabari Small put forth a fairly herculean effort in the 2nd half against FL gaining YAC. Praise the effort, but we should hardly bank on sustaining those kind of YAC against the rest of the SEC. We've got to make defenses keep committing to an extra man in the box to keep the rest of our offense open.

We ran the ball 55% of the time last year

I wonder if some of you even watch the games.
No kidding.

Some people here (OP might be an example): *Vols run for 12* *Vols run for 5* *Vols run for 19* *Vols pass for 35, touchdown* "We are such a passing team!

Same people: *Vols run for 4* *Vols run for 16* *Vols miss a pass downfield* "Hey, maybe we should be a running team!"

Heh.

Go Vols!

You are NOT going to run enough on SEC Defenses to win games. The OL is not top tier. A&M , Bama, and Uga will shut that down, unless you are throwing it well. Teams are going to stack the box and make Joe beat them.

I mean we could abandon the offense that put us #1 in offense that ran it more than it threw it, though it was just about as balanced as it can get an go back to 1970, wishbone style.
Like the Pruitt offense that averaged about 20 points a game.
Let’s take a poll , who’s for it.?

Even though it's a pass...the quick out down the LOS is used as though it was a run. If we can get 4-5 yards it's a good run/pass. We need to be careful because if they pick one it's 6 the other way.
