What kind of shape & strength will he be in/ have? I’m pretty sure he’s not been lifting or running.

You do realize he started every game last season and averaged 68 snaps a game? In fact, once he got healthy in ‘21, he didn’t miss a game until this season.

Im having a hard time understanding why you think he has a history of playing 1 series and coming off the field.

Need him back badly. I think this season has proven that a good center is absolutely vital for the success of the offense. The center is kind of the "second QB" of the offense. I don't have any hate toward Ollie as he was made to step up to the plate with Cooper being out, but I'm optimistic that the offense may look a little better with Cooper back out there.

Pretty sure Basilio has been saying the same thing since before the season started
As much as VN hates that guy (which I don't 100% understand), he's been dead right on the Mays situation the whole time. He's been saying Mays will miss multiple games since before fall camp even began.

I don't see how a guy recovering from such surgery, unable to lift weights, would have any football strength to be effective. I think we're rolling with Ollie the rest of this season.

From VQ:

More details have emerged as sources confirmed to Volquest that Mays surgery was to repair three hernias and an abdominal wall repair during the second week of August.

With the triple hernia procedure in addition to the repair of the abdominal wall tear, Mays was given a six week recovery timeline by the surgeons. In the middle of this past week, was exactly six weeks since the surgery.

Sources also confirmed to Volquest that Mays is on track and hopeful to be ready for this week’s game against South Carolina.
He’s a warrior. Could explain the gigantic point spread

As you suggest healed enough to be on the field isn't necessarily the same thing as ready to play "well". If he really is ready it would be a big help going into the SEC schedule.

Having not played at all this year, Mays may need some time to play to his potential. No question the Vols will need to really compete to beat SC
I wish I felt more confident about this SC
game

Best wishes Coop. I had two inguinal hernia surgeries 7 and 8 years ago. Two different surgeons. Recovery was a bitch.
I don't believe you ever get completely over it. I still have discomfort and pain on and off. Just lifting anything heavy creates weeks of discomfort.
I can't imagine playing football.

Mays will need some tape to convince NFL scouts that he is healthy.

Do you understand what it's like to push a 300lb man trying to run by you for an entire football game? Can you imagine what it will be like when that man KNOWS you've been hurt and your core can't possibly be 100%?

These are not children Cooper Mays will be facing. The nose tackle is 298lbs and he'll know dang well Cooper has been hurt and will try to wear him down, make his gut hurt, probably fall on his belly when he can and encourage his friends to fall on him also. Linemen are merciless because the job is thankless.

And, guess what, he's as young, if not younger, than Cooper and he's not been injured for a month and half. It will not be an easy day for Cooper Mays Saturday if he plays.
