McBee Hate, Lofton Love

Keep saying what you must about Mcbee but at state last year i saw the kid hit 11 threes over a guy thats a freshman at Seton Hall this year.

Who, me?

I just said I changed my mind. I now think he is better than freshman all-america, SEC POY, all-time conference leader in 3-pointers made, Naismith candidate, 2100 point scorer Chris Lofton, based mainly on a 12 point performance against NC A&T.

And I didn't even know about his 11 three pointers in highschool.

I don't get everyone creaming over McBee being a walk on. You realize he'll be on scholly the next 3 years, right?

The dude from Seton Hall is a 6'8 PF from White Station named Ferrakohn Hall

Is it that impressive for what was basically a HS PG to be going around him?

I have nothing against McBee. I hope he grows into a good player for UT and three years from now we are all glad he walked on. I haven't really seen enough of him to know if that is possible or not.

But it is silly to call him something he isn't, and Chris Lofton is one of those things he isn't. So far, he's been not-so-horrible against the bad teams we've played and a complete non-factor against the two decent ones, if you count USC as decent. And that's fine for a role-playing freshman getting minutes when the better players are tired or in trouble, but it doesn't make him the next coming of anybody, much less one of the best guards to ever dress in orange.

let me go on record as saying chris lofton is my fav all time ut basketball player. he may not have been the most athletic vol, but his heart and effort were unrivaled. it seems to me that u guys are comparing the senior lofton with the freshman mcbee. tyler will never be a chris lofton but he will be a good sec player for bruce. he reminds me of a aaron green with his hustle. hopefully he will win a few of u guys over with his effort but probably not. lets face it,hes not from ky, new york or indiana, hes from a rural area in tn and hes white.

Being white and from a rural area of Tn myself, I am going to have to disagree with you. In addition, it isn't even close at this point. I have nothing against Skyler, in fact he has exceeded expectations, Coach Pearl loves his work ethic and he probably tries to model his game somewhat after CL. Someone will, I will not, look back and compare CL's freshman stats with Skyler's at the end of the year and then offensively you will have a truer comparison of their abilities. Chris had remarkable, unbelievable body control, shot more of a fallaway jumper which allowed him to find and make shots that Skyler can not, and was tremendous on the dribble drive with some variation of a finger roll or soft hook at the end. He also was a better penetrator and distributor of the bball. Offensively, you are trying to compare probably a freshman all-american or close to it with a garden variety zone breaker that many teams have sitting on their bench.

Defensively, Loften at this stage was far superior, he was a defensive back in high school and could stay in front of his man. We have never had a pressing, ball hawking, stealing team that could compare with CL, Dane, Jujuan and co. They all had very high bb iq and came to play every game. Skyler gets beat and beat again and then someone else has to help him out. He is trying hard, but his d is not very good to this point.

Lofton was also a very, very good ball handler and a phenominal pressure free throw shooter.

If I was grading the two based on their freshman year alone, keeping in mind that Skyler hasn't played against any of the SEC or better, quicker, guards in the league and basing it on a 1- 100 scale what follows would be my grade.

Lofton 95 range A- to A.

McBee 76 to 80 range C+

Athleticism is important but several current Vol players are athletic and not very good basketball players or shooters IMO.

That is my opinion and McBee is currently my favorite Vol bball player. Next you'll say McBee is comparable to Wall at Ky.

In fairness to the original poster, I took his point as being that the two shared similar physical traits, athletic ability, and main strength (3pt shooting), but did not go to the point of saying that McBee was as good as Lofton in any point of Lofton's career. I think many replies have been made under that the wrong impression. I don't necessarily agree with it, but let's not roast the guy for something he didn't actually say.

The only hype going on with this thread, is the Great White hype with McBee.

Bam! Somebody gets it. This is the only (well, maybe local) reason a walk-on player has gotten the amount of KNS hype he has. Not his fault (or credit).

It's just that the media knows where their market$ are. Remember, for them it's ultimately @ the revenue stream, not what's happening.

BTW, the guy who thinks that hype is the "reason" that NBA teams draft players. Just plain ignorant. Hype MIGHT help in scouting a little and MIGHT play a factor in management's desire to charge it's fanbase at the draft pick stage. On the best day I estimate "hype" being 5% of the equation for that business. 95+% is based on who can "help us win", "help me (management) keep my job", and ulitmately "ring the register".

Sorry but McBee just doesn't do it for me. Also, I thought Lofton was decent with the ball handler in front of him (different story when they blew by) but he was pesty and grabbed a lot of nice steals.

Mcbee is a freshman getting his feet wet. The difference is when lofton was not hitting we lost. The whole team relied on him getting 15 or we lost. Mcbee will play and he will get better. No one was calling for lofton to be pulled cause he was our best offensive weapon then. If mcbee had played then. No one would be calling for him to be pulled either. Again he is a freshman and will get better. If not he won't play in the sec. If he gets hot though pearl knows it will spread out the defense and give the oppertunity for all slashers to get to the basket.
