MCU phase 4 rumor and discussion thread

Doesn't hurt that the actor is younger so more movies could be done with him without getting into the too old look. Downey was basically there for End Game.

Yep, if they locked down Spider-Man, Holland could be like Hugh Jackman and play the character for almost 20 years if he wanted to.

And Peter grew probably more than any other character in comics. He grew from 15 years old to about 20 close to real-time.... then he got stuck at somewhere between 22-25 for about 3 decades. They still try to skirt the line of him being in his upper 20s, full of life experiences, but not full fledged 30s

Yes, and I'm pretty sure they'd like him to be the "face" of Marvel again, at least MCU wise considering I think he's still the face of the comic side. I mean we all know if Marvel had the movie rights, they would have led off with Spider-Man, not Iron Man. And I'm pretty sure they want SM around to be involved with the Avengers long term, not to mention he'd work well with the FF and X-Men. Plus if they buy him back that clears up them on the TV side so they can move forward with longer cartoon series and when they bring back Daredevil you know they'd work them together. And that's not even factoring in being able to use Venom, Carnage, and every other SM associated character.

Spidey/FF or Spidey/DD crossover would be like a dream come true.

He never mixed quite well with X-Men but I do think an Amazing Friends movie with Iceman and Firestar would be a huuuuuge hit.

If they nailed down SM for good I would almost bet money they'd cross over both. The strong rumor is still that the old Stark Avengers tower will be in the setup of the FF. And I don't know how you couldn't crossover DD and SM given their comic history. I just hope they can still get Charlie Cox to reprise the role.

It's being reported that Marvel has regained the rights to The Hulk and Namor.

This and a ton of other strong rumors that apparently have legs.

The other big one is Marvel is getting The Defenders rights back early this year instead of having to wait the full 2 years, coming to an agreement with Netflix to break it early. Charlie Cox, Krystan Ritter, and Jon Bernthal are all being brought back as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Frank Castle/Punisher, but Luke Cage and Danny Rand/Iron Fist will be recast. Daredevil may be re-introduced in the next Spider-man movie as Peter Parker may retain Matt Murdock as his legal representation after the end of Far From Home, and Danny Rand/Iron Fist may be re-introduced in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Also seeing a lot of chatter about the next Doctor Strange is where mutants may be introduced, including Charles Xavier/Professor X.

They should do a couple of Hulk movies taking place between IW and EG. Show his transformation to Professor Hulk. Do at least one with Gray Hulk... if they could get it done before launching X-Men they could introduce the new Wolverine as a nod to his 1st appearance in the comics.

The latest strong rumor is Bernthal is going to be back as Frank Castle/Punisher and they are giving the character the Deadpool treatment, in that they are putting his show on Hulu to remain pretty much R-rated, but they also want the character to appear on screen in MCU movies and crossovers. Which is pretty much how it's been described that they'll use Deadpool (only he gets R-rated movies instead of a show).

It's starting to sound like the Netflix shows are either going to be outright retconned or at the least pretty much ignored, even though 3 of the characters will keep the same actor.

Another rumor (they're everywhere right now) is they may be making a Defenders movie, but this time lining it up with the comic lineup. The original line up was Dr. Strange, Hulk, and Namor. This goes along with the rumor that Marvel got back the full rights to Hulk and Namor.

The original Defenders have to be the most powerful team ever... especially when it included Silver Surfer.

Saw a rumor video on YouTube that Henry Cavill will be cast as wolverine.

When they do get around to casting Wolverine I hope they get someone shorter this time. I liked Jackman but he was too tall. Being an ill tempered runt is part of his character.

Debatable. It comes down to the most powerful individual. Surfer was the most powerful of the original Defender line-up. So the question becomes, who would be more powerful than him? I would say Phoenix. So I would put the Claremont X-Men team that had the Phoenix on it ahead of the Defenders. The true limits of the Phoenix power weren't seen until she went dark, but the power level was always there.

Also, you could look at a number of different Avengers line-ups. Thor and Silver Surfer have fought a number of times and been shown to be close in power. And I believe they've boosted Carol Danvers Captain Marvel powers as well. And then there's the Sentry(personally was not a fan of the character).

I was referring to combined power not just the strongest member. If the entire team combined powers of Surfer, Hulk. Dr Strange, and Namor took on Phoenix, Thor, or Captain Marvel etc. individually, you would be hard pressed to NOT pick the Defenders to win. Of course their Achilles Heel is they were dysfunctional.

Of course it all comes down to how the writers want to play it.

Not sure even the combined power would stand up to the Phoenix. It took Jean Grey's humanity coming through to defeat her in Claremont's run. Otherwise she would have easily have handled the combined might of the X-Men and the Sh'iar Imperial Guard.

You are probably right if the Phoenix was completely unleashed. As Jean it had odd limits (often dictated by the story). Such as when they battled Magneto in 113 and she even questioned why she couldn’t ramp up the attack.

Like I said, it took her going dark to really unleash the potential.

As much as I love the MCU, Eternals will end up being their biggest bust, imo. Characters that I have heard of since the 70s and can't tell u jack sh!t about. I guess u can say the same about the Guardians and they had 2 great movies. But, I knew who their were and always thought their were cool. Then the MCU locked down Chris Pratt, made him the star of the GoG, added humor and absolutely nailed it. No, when I was first introduced to the Guardians, in Marvel Two in One, starring the Thing and a guest star every month, there wasn't any humor, but they were bad-a$$ and interesting. The Eternals have never been cool, bad-a$$ or had any chance at any humor with their boring characters. Seems like a recipe for a disaster, imo. We will see, but even with the great cast this movie has, I still have no interest in seeing this movie because I've never gave a sh!t about the Eternals or any comic that they have ever been in. If the MCU can make me care about these characters and this movie, I will never doubt Feige or MCU ever again. I hope they prove me wrong, but I doubt it. They are not even human or real super heroes, more like gods (well, I think, like I said, I have never bought one of their comics and rarely even read one where even one Eternal guest starred in), so that makes them almost unrelatable. Need to stick to what works, Black Window looks damn good to me, characters like Natasha are what I wanna see. I feel like the Eternals are a poor man's New Gods or even Inhumans (we saw how that ended up), just my opinion, I could be wrong
