Doesn't hurt that the actor is younger so more movies could be done with him without getting into the too old look. Downey was basically there for End Game.
Yes, and I'm pretty sure they'd like him to be the "face" of Marvel again, at least MCU wise considering I think he's still the face of the comic side. I mean we all know if Marvel had the movie rights, they would have led off with Spider-Man, not Iron Man. And I'm pretty sure they want SM around to be involved with the Avengers long term, not to mention he'd work well with the FF and X-Men. Plus if they buy him back that clears up them on the TV side so they can move forward with longer cartoon series and when they bring back Daredevil you know they'd work them together. And that's not even factoring in being able to use Venom, Carnage, and every other SM associated character.
Spidey/FF or Spidey/DD crossover would be like a dream come true.
He never mixed quite well with X-Men but I do think an Amazing Friends movie with Iceman and Firestar would be a huuuuuge hit.
It's being reported that Marvel has regained the rights to The Hulk and Namor.
Another rumor (they're everywhere right now) is they may be making a Defenders movie, but this time lining it up with the comic lineup. The original line up was Dr. Strange, Hulk, and Namor. This goes along with the rumor that Marvel got back the full rights to Hulk and Namor.
Insert LD fainting gifI think I know why there are rumblings about RDJ saying he'd be open to coming back to the MCU.....his Doolittle movie is getting terrible reviews.

Debatable. It comes down to the most powerful individual. Surfer was the most powerful of the original Defender line-up. So the question becomes, who would be more powerful than him? I would say Phoenix. So I would put the Claremont X-Men team that had the Phoenix on it ahead of the Defenders. The true limits of the Phoenix power weren't seen until she went dark, but the power level was always there. The original Defenders have to be the most powerful team ever... especially when it included Silver Surfer.

Also, you could look at a number of different Avengers line-ups. Thor and Silver Surfer have fought a number of times and been shown to be close in power. And I believe they've boosted Carol Danvers Captain Marvel powers as well. And then there's the Sentry(personally was not a fan of the character).
Not sure even the combined power would stand up to the Phoenix. It took Jean Grey's humanity coming through to defeat her in Claremont's run. Otherwise she would have easily have handled the combined might of the X-Men and the Sh'iar Imperial Guard.I was referring to combined power not just the strongest member. If the entire team combined powers of Surfer, Hulk. Dr Strange, and Namor took on Phoenix, Thor, or Captain Marvel etc. individually, you would be hard pressed to NOT pick the Defenders to win. Of course their Achilles Heel is they were dysfunctional.
Of course it all comes down to how the writers want to play it.
