Media Bias

Every Fanbase things that the media is biased against them, except for Alabama and Texas.

No complaints from me. When you lose the quarterback and most prolific receivers from a high powered offense it's to be expected.
Literally the closest thing to a Heisman since Peyton and our FIRST EVER Biletnikoff...and people feel disrespected being 10th in the Coaches and 12th in AP? Lmao

Top 10/12 in S3 is AMAZING. How quickly people have forgotten.

Let’s continue to beat the drum……….
The only 11 win team (#1 offense) in the country from last year that’s not a preseason top 10 in the AP poll. Nah, no bias, move along.
Wait, this isn't even true 😅

AP 2023:

3 other teams defy this supposed fact. And the other 6 teams (5-10) all return their QB. If we were bringing back HH and Hyatt we'd be top 3/5 off the bat.

Georgia, Alabama, and OSU all lose multiple top players each season but never drop out of the top five 😬. Heck, Alabama lost their elite QB and don’t even really know who their starter is yet. Why aren’t they out of the top 10 if that is the rationale used to downgrade the Vols?
The programs that you mentioned have earned the benefit of the doubt. They’ve proven over the years that it doesn’t matter who they lose to the draft or graduation. They just plug new guys in with little to no drop off.

Alabama actually lost a Heisman winning QB in Young and unlike Tennessee doesn’t even have a decent replacement ready to step up. Why didn’t they drop out of the Top 10 preseason of that is the reason we did? (I am only halfway serious of course about expecting Bama to drop; but just pointing out how silly it was for the poll voters to drop us just for losing Hooker)

A lot of “coulds” in there.

That's what a new year is about, UGA will 3 peat if their QBs play close to what Stetson was a game managing coach/QB on the field. Bama will be great if one of their 3 QBs has a All SEC year. It is what it is a lot of if & buts and looking for candy and nuts on all teams. The nature of pre-season, just embrace it.

Ton is not the word I'd use as a team we look to reload. We lost Hooker who was great but we are replacing him with someone that won OB MVP and could be equal to HH or even I say better. We lost Hyatt who came out of nowhere to just show out , I think aided by Tillman having to sit most of season. We replace him with Squirrel who could eventually put up those numbers maybe not this year. Because we have Bru and Donte and Keyton. Our Tight ends are deeper than I've seen in a while. The running Backs are all back and a year older and wiser. I just don't see a ton , I see we put some guys in the NFL and to me we look like we have more destined for the league. Hang on its going to be a fun ride.
I will agree with everything except the TE’s.
Losing Darnell is to me our biggest concern.

Because they are three deep with 4 and 5 star talent that are just sitting there, learning and lifting weights, until it's their moment to shine. They have a proven, successful staff that has consistently won 10 or more games for the last decade (it seems). They consistently produce NFL first round picks at nearly every position. Preseason rankings have more to do with the cumulative program than last season's performance.

His view of the Vols is realistic and rational. It would be irrational to say that the Vols are a top 5 program in the preseason based on one season's performance and not the state of the program as a whole. Depth is an issue.

I am assuming a lack of blue font was an accident. Those "points" are voting points, not points scored.

He's talking about Troy, Tulane, and TCU. They won at least 11 games and are not in the top ten, which makes OP's comment not true. He is also pointing out that 6 of the other 10/11 win teams are bringing back their starting QB where UT is not.

Tulane and TCU won 11+ and aren't top 10. There's no bias. Just like with Vol fans, Milton has to show he can play at the level Hendon played at and our crap defense doesn't help. As we and TCU showed last year, where you start the season ranked means absolutely nothing. All that matters is where you finish. We have a lot of question marks and important players to replace. I'm perfectly fine being 10-12 to start the season. If we win, the rankings will take care of themselves!

NO other team finished with a 58 point loss.

They still won 13 games, won a playoff game and made it to the Championship game. They aren't ranked as high because they lost more than just about any team in college football. They had a senior dominant team.

Hell we could go 13-0 and win the NC with everybody back and they'd vote Bama Ohio St. Georgia Michigan LSU USC ahead of us. Polls are a sheet show.

Exactly and he's 100% correct. Plus we had one of the worst defense's in college football, they may not think Milton can lead an offense that has to outscore every team we play. We have a lot of question marks, if we are a top 5 team we will get there soon enough. Like it gets mentioned every year, these early rankings are for the fans and media. They mean nothing to the players playing the games. If Milton has a great care and our Defense has gotten better, then starting the season 12 is meaningless. We haven't earned the right to start seasons top 5 after losing a lot of production. A few more good seasons and that can change.

Absolutely not true. If that was the case we would have never made it to #1 last year. If we win, like last year we will get moved up. There's no bias or anything else against us. After these past 20 yrs, we haven't exactly earned the right to be expected to do well or start out top 5. Gotta earn that.

I relish in the fact the media and others are discounting the VOLS. The team should too. We’re probably ranked about right, but a little chip on the shoulder is a good thing. Accept being the dog and own it. Just let it be fuel to the fire. Just win and everything else will take care of itself.
