Media's perception of Tennessee

So let me just ask you little question. Do you think the players and coaching staff need a reality check? Cause you can bet your A$$ they will be thinking of Winning EVERY game! Not just 6 or 7! Now who needs the realitycheck?

Once we pull off our first big upset, our confidence and motivation will elevate our team play even more. I sure hope the gators and ducks underestimate us. Just give us a crease and we will make those teams fold!

Our wins/loses?.... Yeah, based on what we as fans know about team 117, It's crazy to make the assumption that this team can't go undefeated, although unrealistic to A DEGREE. Stay Positive, or get the f*** out of the way because that's where you stand...in the way.Thank god fans are not telling our players which games they are going to lose. OR are they?

To answer the question what gets us ranked 7-5 were in the top 25. 8-4 were in the top 15. To answer the media question. screw them now and after we are ranked they know nothing never have never will!!!!

Honestly, I think the perception of Tennessee is beginning to change little by little. I'm expecting 6-6 maybe 7-5 if everything breaks right. I think I'll just agree with what Bruce Feldman wrote recently...by year 3 the program should be back to elite status. I'll say this for Butch he's already proven he can recruit at an elite level...now he's going to have to do a hell of a coaching job to take the talent that's been left for him and win just enough to get this program where it should be. I'd say first year is key for recruiting and development of players. If we can get bowl eligible that shows the progress to potential recruits and it allows us to have an extra practice which is key for development for all the freshmen.

Wow.

Seriously dude, lay off the crackpipe, although I seriously doubt you really believe this; this is typical big messageboard talk early in the season. Come middle of the season I doubt you'll even show up around here.

I'm trying to prepare myself for a god awful season. I've had my heart broken way too many times over the past three years. If we finish 7-6 or 6-7, I'll be freaking ecstatic. Means we won some SEC games.

In October he'll be calling for Butch's head

1st thing is we are Tennessee, may have been down recently but our name still carries a "little weight", 2nd we're in the sec & 3rd one of those 7 wins will be considered an upset. We won't think it is but the media will.

As far as I can recall they have always hated us for some reason or another. If we were to beat Oregon in week 3 and be 3-0 going into the Florida game, then I think we might be ranked for that game in the Swamp.

In all honesty out of the 5 that we are "supposed" to lose to according to the so called experts, I still believe South Carolina is the team we beat. We have 2 weeks to prepare for them, we get them at home, their D is pretty much just Clowney, and their Offense doesn't really scare me either.

We go 8-4 and UT prestige is restored. Recruits say we told you so and point towards Butch. Media goes full Butch as the bricks keep getting added to the foundation. Go Vols!

If we do fail to beat someone we aren't supposed to, that puts us at 3-5 heading into November. Realistically, it won't be reason to call for Butch's head, but it will give a realistic view of how well Butch and Co. can coach. Can he get the team to bounce back and finish 4-0 in a rather easy November? That will be the question.

That's a huge question. It wasn't like last year's team didn't have its chances against: UGA, Miss St., and USC.

They didn't win any of those games, and we know what happened. Should Oct. history repeat itself, can Butch keep the team together?

and before I get called a NegaVol, I'm just responding to the OP's original scenario. Obviously Butch gets it, TN is going 14-0, shutting out every team in their path and returning to Glory starting Saturday.

Butch Gets It. GBO, V4L, IGTBATV.

I too, but I pick up the pieces and put them back together again. Because I'll always have a Jonathan Livingston Seagull perception of my Vols. The difference between who you are and who you want to be, is what you do. Vols forever!!!!!!!!!!!! :lolabove:

Anybody can be knocked down, takes a real man/woman to get back up each time. Remember Platoon where that one legged Vietnamese was repeated pushed down and bounced right back up again. That's the spirit CBJ is putting in the orange and white jerseys. fans could use a dose of that too.

GrowVol, your admonishment for fans to stay positive is solid advice. BUT I fear we have a faction of Vols fans(?) on this board who wouldn't know what positive is even if used as sauce on cat poop pie fed to them warmed to 78 degrees fahrenheit.

No, in October I will be supporting the team, preaching that we can win out and supporting CBJ all the way. I don't have the expectation of us winning out, or even winning 9 games, but I have the mindset that we can win out. Guess I have the attitude you get when you get older, and stop living life making assumptions about everything and everyone.

The top 25 is not a ranking of the best 25 teams its a ranking of the 25 teams with the best records. We saw it last year with Notre Dame being ranked #1 going into the NC game it was plain to everyone they were not the best team in football, many argued they wouldn't even be top 5 in the SEC alone but they were the sole team with out a loss so they were ranked #1. To break into the top 25 you can only afford to have 4 losses on your record. With a big bowl win we might break into the top 25 with 5 losses but only after the season.
