So Team USA got rid of all the woke vets and now we've fallen to 5th ranked team in the world. How did this happen? I thought they were dragging us down? Does anybody know why we've fallen so much?

They destroyed their youth pipeline. Once the old guard aged out there was little behind them

So technically they did put out the best team a couple years back, they just didn't set themselves up for the future

The woke vets made it out of the knockout round by 1/8th of an inch and couldn't make it past Round of 16...

Just seems the rankings have caught up with reality....

I bet those other countries don't have pay-to-play youth development. I wonder if we're screwed forever now that the rest of the world caught up.

I have to think they likely had a handful of better players to call up but they were too scattered so they didn't. It was pretty obvious though that it would be the last gasp unless something major happened. The men seem to have learned a bit from this

We won't get back to that spot again. We may get to #1 in the world but we will never get to that gap again....

2023 - We relied and played veterans who could no longer play at this level. I've beat it to death in here so I'm not going to rehash it all. The chemistry stunk. Those same players who couldn't play at this level anymore griped to the press then choked when given another chance....

Our soccer development is warped. Right now, our best athletes play basketball and football. Soccer and baseball are typically fighting to pull the best suburban athletes....

We got 2 healthy incomes and I'm not sure we could afford to do everything we need to get our kids competing at this level. The $ weeds out a lot of the best talent, even if other sports weren't more popular

My son's team made the State Tourney as a senior and they were the only team with a AA player.

My alma mater is one of the best. I would have struggled to even make that team, much less start

Our women's national team will always be very strong because we draw from one of the biggest talent pools
in the world. Maybe only China is bigger--but I don't think its grassroots and collegiate soccer infrastructure is nearly as advanced
as ours.
