Memorable SEC upsets....

We were such a dominant team in the 1990s that, yes, most every time we lost it was a "memorable upset." I would rather be in that position than be a team in which every win is a "memorable upset." I have faith that Butch Jones will get us back to the days when every team that visits Neyland expects to lose!

And, yes, the '85 Auburn game was our upset. The media darling Bo Jackson wimped out in the 3rd quarter with a "sore knee" and what I suspect was a rotten case of Dale Jones-induced urinary incontinence.

I remember them all vividly. I'd add our loss to SC in 1992 and our win over Florida in 2004 to the list of improbables.

1992 to SC, yes...2004 UF, no way! They were ranked 11, UT was ranked 13. Not a huge upset.

I would add the '82 Bama and '92 UGA games. UGA was loaded that year.

Should have thrown a little love ron zook's way.

Florida-Georgia 2002 and Florida-Lsu 2003 should have made the list

It depends on how you look at it. UT was highly ranked going into the game...they were just 18 point underdogs.

Upset to me just means a lower rank beating a higher rank. That's how we view it in the NCAA tourney, too. I think it just makes it sweeter knowing that we were huge underdogs, and on the road.

The next game however.... :banghead2:

Yeah and all the national talk leading up to that game was about Florida in the national championship. It was like everyone just assumed them beating UT was a foregone conclusion. Man, I miss Travis Stephens.

Hindsight is 20/20. But, it was understandable at the time.

Florida had won 7 of the last 8. They wer at home where their record was ridiculous. Grossman had a season where he put up monster numbers.

Etc, etc, etc.

If you put yourself back in that time, it made sense.

Problem was people didn't recognize how loaded with nfl talent Tennessee also was

My first game ever game at Neyland ... Incredible!! Went home the next day with UT application in hand.

Yes, the hype was all on UF in 2001. If you take all the hype away you have the #5 team winning at the #2 team.

Go back to 1996. I don't see anyone mentioning the UT/UF game from that year. #4 UF won at #2 UT. Not a huge upset.

I was at that game. Leading up to it the atmosphere was similar to the "Sugar Canes" of 85. All Florida had to do was beat the Vols and the NC game was pretty much a lock for them. I have to admit though. The Fl fans I talked to after the game were very subdued (maybe it was shell shock) and respectful. They new they had been beaten a whole lot worse than the score showed.

Spurrier even said in an interview afterwards...not to judge the game by the scoreboard...we had beaten them much worse than that.

We were ranked in 85 too. Didn't change he fact that nobody thought we would win. Same thing in 01. Nobody ouside of UT fans thought we would win that game.
