Memphis Tigers

The difference is we led Memphis most of the second half until they pulled away with about 3 mintues left last year.. They were never in the game in Knoxville. And they really struggled against UTEP last week. I'm not saying Memphis isn't a quality team, but I'm not yet convinced their top 5 material. I might alter my opinion if they manage to get past the opening weekend of the tournament..

That night that UT beat Memphis, UT would have beaten anybody in the nation. Lofton was on. It a was great shooting night for UT.

Name one team that would challenge them in The SEC West?

Ok, let's put this to rest:

SECW is HORRIBLE THIS YEAR

I have NEVER came on here claiming that the West is strong.

Now back to reality:

Memphis isn't a top 10 team, much less top 5.
They don't have ONE QUALITY WIN this year.
They shoot 3's, wow, what an offense.
I guess we will see the REAL Memphis when they aren't playing Utep, Smu etc...
I was BORN in Memphis, and live right outside as we speak. I don't HATE the Tigers. I want to see players come through here develop into something more than thugs.

So if a player doesn't develop into something, does that automatic make him a thug ? Just trying to see what is exactly being said, here. I mean Damien Dodson is a good friend of mine who I regret played football for Memphis, but he played one year in The NFL, he didn't totally make it, but he is actually a police officer now, so do he count as not making it ?

I am saying that more thugs come out of Memphis than talented basketball players.

Well that is attributed to the city's growth over the last couple of years. Me and a co-worker just had a discussion about this about 3 hours ago. Anytime a city is growing, you will have big city crime. With you be from Nesbit, look at Desoto County, MS. Horn Lake ,Olive Branch, and Southaven are growing at a rapid pace and the crime is creeping up. So you have to take the good with the bad. New York, Texas, Chicago. California, all are big cities and yes much to my dismay they have thugs too. Big City = Big Crime

P.S. I am not disputing your statement at all about more thugs coming out of Memphis than basketball players.

I know kids are kids and all that, just seems that Cal is a little light in the discipline department. I also think that with the talent that comes into Memphis, it seems to develop at a snail like pace, if ever.

By all means, please regale us with this litany of diciplinary transgressions you're talking about.

I'll take my chances with a selection made by a personnel guy who drafted Al Harrington. His numbers weren't much his rookie year. I think he turned out OK.

On a side note, it is clear that D-Wash wasn't ready either. Carney never seemed to develop over his stay either.

Rodney Carney came in as a moderately recruited player. He left as an NBA first round pick. I think I'd call that development.

News flash: Darius Washington could have stayed in college 8 years and it would not have mattered. He's not an NBA player because he doesn't have NBA talent.

You guys might want to quit arguing with hat on this issue. He's coming with facts and obvious truths. Y'all are coming with emotional biases. :hmm:

Carney was a diamond in the ruff.. Calipari asked Keady why he didn't go after him. Keady responded saying he noticed him too late and didn't have a slot for him at the time.. He always had that great speed and leaping ability in high school. Part of the reason he went unnoticed was due to the small division he played in Indiana. And when you skip out on AAU, you're not gonna get evaluated on a national level all to often.. Cal didn't mold him into the athlete he is today, he(Carney)dominated way back during his days in Indiana..

Yeah, I'm sure if he had've gone to Arkansas State or Louisiana Tech his draft status would've been the same...

lol.. I guees Paul Millsap(LATech)must have slipped your mind huh? (One of the most productive rookies in the league this year..) Carney would have been a first rounder no matter where he went to college. That was a weak attempt mentioning smaller schools as a factor in the draft process.
