Memphis vs Arkansas State

You're lying or just dislike Memphis so much that you don't want to acknowledge the truth. The facilities I mentioned are very nice.

I have been to the south campus a few times with WWII barracks.

That's not exactly true. They paid Tommy West $1 million plus per year, which was the most in C-USA at the time. What happened is, at the time when they should've been pushing to improve football facilities following the Deangelo Williams years, they thought they could muddle through while upgrading other facilities that also badly needed to be upgraded.

The new golf facility - first class. The new baseball park - first class. The Finch Center - first class. The new Hall of Fame/Athletic Offices - amazing. The Tiger Lane tailgating area outside the Liberty Bowl - awesome. So it's a misnomer to say they haven't put money into facilties the last few years. Now they're just getting around to football, which is about 5 years too late.

The depth of the program isn't an issue of commitment, facilities or fan support. It's about two bad coaching choices. 1) Keeping Tommy West too long 2) Hiring a running back's coach who was nothing more than a recruiter at LSU and who is in way over his head trying to run a Div. 1 program.

Those problems are fixable, and fairly quickly.

RC's priorities were all screwed up and it goes MUCH deeper than just keeping TW too long and hiring a recruiter to replace him. The football facilities are pathetic. The new weight room is ok for C-USA standards and they just now got their outside practice field finished. Baseball and golf bring nothing to the athletic department. Invest in football as that brings the money in (for most universities). Paying TW $1M per year means squat when he is not supported with facilities. TW was right on with his exit press conference rant. If you aren't going to invest money into it, just shut it down.

Firing RC should be step one, two and three at this point.

None of of these projects cost a significant amount of money.

What are you defending? The fact that they are playing catch-up with 3rd tier sports and facilities, while that dump of a stadium crumbles in the hood? Come on, man!

The game against Peay next week will be a classic. Worst FBS program vs. the worst FCS program.

memphis fertile recruiting ground but they can rarely capitalize because FB is an afterthought.

i've been hearing about a new emphasis on football for years, even local radio has a running joke about the yearly fake optimism

Freeze sounds like the most gettable name out. It's definitely more realistic than Rich Rod, Mike Leach, or Butch Davis. But why would Freeze leave ASU to go to Memphis? When Porter was hired it was all about how good a recruiter he was, his ties to Memphis, etc. Now he's a glorified position coach in the eyes of many. Tommy West warned everyone what would happen to the program and it's happening. The next guy is going to have to deal with it for a few years before the next next guy and so on.

I am certain that Freeze wouldn't take the job now. I was merely referring to two years ago. At that time he was an OC looking for an HC job. He is a great offensive mind and a pretty good recruiter as well.

Honestly, I think he'd laugh in the face of RC (or the next AD) if they offered.

I'd try and go for a semi well-known OC or DC from an established BCS school. Doesn't necessarily have to be a big name guy. Or maybe an even better choice would be a current FCS coach.

I think Mike Leach to Memphis would be interesting. Will it happen? Probably not but hey stranger things have happened.

I'm sure he's desperate enough to take the job, but I couldn't see Memphis being his best offer.

The problem with Memphis is that they are located in Memphis. Clean up that dumpster fire of a city and you may at some point have a successful university there. Right now the patients are running the asylum.
