He did have the guts to stick up for his QB. Looked like a cheap shot to me.
It was a cheap shot. However, the way Meyer brought about the discussion certainly makes this whole situation a little odd. Comes after everyone attacks him for not being tough on Spikes. He knew damn well he was getting a fine.I haven't seen it, it does happen quite often with qb's that run the option though.
Was he faking the run at that point or had he pulled up and taken himself out of the play. Most often when I see a qb running the option he is hit because he is still trying to deceive the defense and hitting the hole like he has the ball. If this was the case there is no such thing as a cheap shot, he is a running back at that point engaged in the fake and is fair game......I guess I would have to see the hit for myself though.
Does anyone think that this fine happened so now Slive can come down hard on Kiffin if/when he makes an unfavorable comment?
That's the thing. It seemed like there would be no action, but if he didn't, basically all the other SEC coaches could say whatever they want. There isn't much doubt in my opinion who Slive considers the most likely to voice his opinion. No, I don't think that. He had to do it because he had put his foot down and had to back it up.
He's given the blueprint to get a small fine though.
1.) Send it tape to SEC on questionable call
2.) Next day, the coach can open his remarks with "I love our officials, but <insert "mild" criticism here>...blah blah blah.
3.) Get a small fine
It's going to be interesting to see what Slive does to the next coach, because I'm sure someone else will do it before the end of the season.
Clever accounting to recompensate Meyer was what I was thinking too.I wonder if Slive slips CUM a brown bag full of cash in a few days. "Sorry sweetie, you know what I had to do, but I got this one"
