Meyer fined $30,000!!!

I don't like CUM, but this is ridiculous. All of the coaches of the SEC should come together and all speak out against Slive. They should suggest that instead of fining a coach, maybe he should just hire a competent ref.

If there was going to be a suspension does anyone else think he would have suspended Meyer if Fla. International was next and not an SEC opponent?

He makes $4,000,000 per year. A $30,000 fine is 0.75% of his annual salary.

That's the same as someone who makes $40,000/year getting hit with a $300 fine.... it sucks, but isn't the end of your life.

30K is 30K. That is a huge fine. I guess the precedent is set. I'll bet that shuts a lot of people up. What do you think Kiffin gets if he says anything else? I'm saying 100K, with the warnings and Slive's dislike and all...

Pretty sure he said fine and/or suspension...I honestly can't believe he fined him as much as he did...I expected maybe 5,000 or 10,000.

Slive said "fines AND suspensions".

Look at it another way, $30,000 is 3 days of pay for Meyer (4,000,000/365*3).

While it is a big # for us regular folk, 3 days of pay isn't going to be undo hardship for anyone.

Agree completely. This has got to get nipped in the bud. All the SEC coaches should find a call to criticize this week and then refuse to pay any fines. What's the SEC going to do, suspend them all? Even if it does, they should show up anyway, it's not like the SEC is the government and can come in and arrest them.

Slive should have fined Mark Richt as well. He told a reporter that he agreed with Meyer that a penalty should have been called on that play.

Lane is on a short leash now.

take out the trash day

nobody reads the news on fridays...

Even more pathetic. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Meyer suggested the penalty, given Slive's take yesterday.

That's probably exactly how it happened. He's such a puppet on a string.

Can fans give him a 'vote of no confidence'?

Look, this is simple. Meyer tested the new rule...we didn't think he would get hit with anything. Slive then hit him with 30k.

It's done.

it would be like a 30$ fine. unless 40k a year is after taxes.

That's really the best part!:lolabove: :lolabove:

Kiffin is always a step ahead of Meyer. What trap will Kiff lay for him next?

I dislike the gators and urbie as much as anyone, but some of you guys are giving Kiffin way too much credit.

I don't think Lane cares.
If I was Lane, and they tried to fine me for such nonsense...I'd tell Slive to shove it...he didn't interview for the job with Slive and he doesn't answer to him. Slive is not the Sheriff of the SEC. He's a mouthpiece...and administrator. Not the judge and jailer.

I'd tell Slive that my job is on the line with every win or loss, and NO SEC coach can afford the status quo with such a volitile position. It doesn't hurt Slive's job any. Not the case with the coaches. It can wreck a NC bid...it can cost a program millions by getting locked out of a bowl bid.
Doesn't affect Slive any whatsoever...so it's really easy, from his chair to be throwing around threats, but it's no small matter to a coach. That's why all these AD's need to show some backbone and stand up for their coaches.

They need to nix that stupid rule. If a coach feels the calls were so egregious that something needs to be said publicly, so be it.
