Meyer placed on administrative leave. No joke!

Smith's lawyer has already stated that Smith never told Meyer about the abuse allegations. Why would Smith's lawyer be concerned about Urban Meyer under these circumstances?

I think this is about protecting Ohio St more than a coach.
Smith's lawyer never said that Smith never informed him of the domestic abuse allegations. He only said that Smith didn't tell him about the restraining order violation....the one that ultimately got him canned.

Keep in mind Urban's wife, Shelly is involved. She works for OSU as well and had an obligation to report Courtney's abuse to her superiors. Either she didn't report it to protect the program and Urban, or she did and it was a huge sweep under the rug. Also, the abuser is the grandson of Urban's mentor and had been on Urban's staff starting way back in Florida.

This story has many many layers.

If they do keep Meyer, which I really don't think they do seeing as that university is rather quick in resolving issues like this, they are opening themselves up to a whole lot of **** due to Title IX.

Ohio St is dealing with accusations of abuse from wrestling and dive coaches currently. The last thing they want now is the image of keeping wife abusers on staff after allegations are known. My guess is their first step will be looking for a way to prove Meyer didn't know about 2015. A guilty head coach looks bad for the university.

Personally I don't think there's any way he and Ohio St didn't know what was going on with one of their coaches, who had a history of abuse allegations from 2009, when police had already been involved multiple times and she had told the coach's wives, including Meyer's, about what was going on.

I don't know if they'll keep him, I just don't think they'll scapegoat him with no buyout since they probably knew what was going on and discussed this with Meyer back in 2015.

I've tooled around a couple Ohio St forums to try and get something accurate and a few of their posters were saying it wasn't Meyer's decision to keep Smith on staff. It came from higher up.

Makes you think, UF told him step down or he would fired or leave quietly, but I don't think Urban survives this. OSU is going to fire him....... Wonder what Kirk Herbstreit's take will be? He's gone, noway OSU can keep him!

If Meyer had just acknowledged during Big Ten media days, that he was aware of the 2015 incident and made a mistake by not immediately firing Zach Smith, then he could probably survive this. Instead, his pride got in the way and now it looks like he was trying to cover it up. Nobody (not even Ohio State fans) will believe that Shelley Meyer didn't tell her husband about her exchange with Smith's wife.

How do y'all think Ohio State will do in 2018 with an interim head coach? With all the distractions(Urban Meyer getting canned)i think Ohio State will ghost walk to an 8-4 record with losses to TCU,Penn State,Michigan State and Michigan.

They’ll still have elite talent.

Really depends on if the team keeps their focus on football and not Meyer.

I have a question for anyone who knows more about this situation but with a title ix violation and trouble within the head coach, coaching staff and possibly more within the program. Can you explain how the program is not at all in the spotlight with either a postseason ban or some sort of scholarship reduction or combination of things?

I know the violation was different but Penn State almost lost the football program for an amount of time due to violations by the coaching staff.

Keep in mind, this story just broke. It's a bit early to really dig into a possible Title IX violation.

That said, the NCAA should stay out of Title IX issues. That's an issue for the departments of justice and education. Just like with Penn State, nothing will be made better by the NCAA's involvement in legal matters.

Well I would believe the title ix issue is front and center. I think that sCUm would be in violation or at the very least his staff of violation for providing a safe environment to an underrepresented gender.

Hopefully some players will transfer off of the Ohio State football team and Coach Pruitt and his staff get a few to come to Tennessee:cool:

Overheard another coworker and tOSU fan say that McMurphy is not credible because he got fired from ESPN 🙄

get the white wash ready! they will be spreading it on thick!

Urban will be right back in the saddle in ten days--you can bet on it!

he wins games--he's got nothing to worry about!

I’m actually very surprised they are going to can him. He truly was their golden child. But then again, I was shocked that UGA had the stones to fire Mark Richt so maybe I’m just naive.

UGA was forced to confront the problem Richt was on cruise control until he decided to retire someday. He had become totally hands off and as long as he could win 9 or 10 games per year he felt good about it. His confrontation with Pruitt brought a lot of that to the light of day. Richt was not actually interested in doing what it took to win a NC, Pruitt was.

Hit pieces are already out on Meyer. Florida players are lining up by name to trash the guy, forced lifts to exhaustion where a player "blew out both quads" ambulance called was hosipitalized, player with a shoulder infection was called a "pxxxy" while not being told how bad or serious the infection was, temporarily lost the use of his arm forced to practice anyway, full bottles of Gatorade thrown at players, etc. Meyer's wife has texts from the 2015 incident where she told Smith's wife she would tell Urban, which likely means he lied to the OSU AD or Meyer's wife becomes a pariah for hiding domestic assault. This thing is going to get uglier for Urban than any of us can believe is my prediction, UNLESS, he gets in front of it. Calls a presser does a mea culpa about not handling it well in 2015,. he's experiencing chest pains and for the good of his health and family he steps down.

It was the headline on CNN this morning. I'd say there's more traction than I thought.

Urban will be fired by next Wednesday. There’s no way Ohio State can comeback from this. They have lost the court of public opinion.

Their program will be knocked back to 1967.
