On September 11, 1999 Baylor led UNLV 24-21 with :28 left in the fourth quarter and the ball on UNLV's 8-yard line. UNLV had no time outs remaining, so all Baylor had to do was kneel the ball to end the game and get HC Kevin Steele his first win.
Baylor could win the football game by doing almost anything, including nothing, except a) what they did, or b) actually try to lose. Instead, possibly the greatest example of karma in human history occurred when Steele decided to try to score again, the RB fumbled at about the 1-yard line, and a UNLV linebacker ran it back 99 yards to score as time expired.
Bizarrely, in 2018, a Mario Cristobal coached 3-0 Oregon team was up 31-28 against Stanford with under a minute left. The Cardinal only had one timeout left, and rather than take the knee to bleed the clock, the Ducks ran the ball and it resulted in a fumble recovered by Stanford with 51 seconds left. Stanford was able to kick the game-tying field goal to send it into overtime, and later won in overtime 38-31.Only thing that even remotely compares:
This is really bad middle school coach level bad to have happen ONCE, but TWICE????!!!!???? and he's making something like $8 million per year to coach?Wes Rucker

Cristobal losing TWO games in his coaching career because he refused to kneel out the clock is a level of hubris and/or ignorance I can’t fathom.
Thanks. I didn't watch any of that game.Miami up 3 with 1:17 left. 2nd down. All they have to do is kneel twice.
They hand off on 2nd down. I say, what are they doing!?
The announcers begin to ask if they need to hand off again. One says wait, no it's over. Snap with like 35 left and win.
They hand off on 3rd down. Fumble!!!
Announcer says this is the biggest coaching mistake I've ever seen at this level.
Tech needs a fg to tie. 10 sec left at the 50 or so. Bomb over the D for 6. Game over.
