I'll defer to those who say we could get a good coach with the money and advantages our program has to offer, but I think there are a couple things that temper the expectations.
First, I don't think there are any good coaches with UT ties on the market due to the general state of the program before Pearl, so we could end up looking for another coach sooner than we'd like. In itself, that's not necessarily a problem, but they can't all be home run hires. Pearl seems like the best bet for longevity, assuming nothing else major comes out of the investigation.
Second, we don't have a natural recruiting base. It seems like we pretty much never get anyone from Memphis, and while Atlanta has been good to us recently, there's not really anything to suggest that it would stay that way with a new coach or if UGA improves. So any theoretical hire would need to be able to recruit nationally at a high-level as well. I'm not sure how much more recruiting success it's fair to expect than what Bruce has accomplished, missteps and all (though there have been some pretty regrettable situations, I admit).
Also, depending on what happens between now and the next time we need a head coach (tomorrow or 20 years from now), I don't think you can count on the fan support. If everything stays mostly positive, then it should be fine. If we slip on or off the court, then it's up in the air in my view. Bruce has done a better job in this area than anyone could have expected, so that could be another factor that determines who the next coach needs to be or the success that he will have.
I don't think we're an easy job or a destination job just yet. Whenever we need to hire a new coach, I think he'll have to not only be a good coach but also be a good fit in order to have success, and then we'll have to hope he doesn't move on up the ladder in 3 years as well.
