No but it will either get him drafted sooner (as a team wants to brag about drafting a gay player) or will plummit his stock. Ballsy move, i give him that

In before everyone starts acting like gay athletes coming out somehow negatively affects their (VN posters) lives.

I have zero problem with anyone being gay. That's said, thank goodness we beat up 35 police officers last night. Sr lb saying he was gay would've been hard to overcome, pun intended.

Why do gay people feel the need to tell other people who they are sexually attracted to? We don't care

If he can ball, then it should be no issue. That was the deal with the guy in the nba who came out, he wasn't that good of a player.

Obviously there was someone or some people that cared enough about it that they were going to "out" him. He wants his story to come out on his terms. Can't fault him for that.

Because it's a big part of who they are. Why should they feel the need to keep something like that a secret?

Assuming you're not just joking, let me answer that question. We live in a society where you're considered heterosexual by default. It's not like you have to go around parading your heterosexuality (although many still do) to feel accepted or to fit in. For gays, their sexuality is obviously a fundamental part of their being, just as your heterosexuality is to you. Difference is, you don't live in a society where your heterosexuality is considered a problem. Of course it's not political for you. It doesn't have to be. But for gays on the other hand...

Something tells me this thread will soon usurp the Marcus Smart thread at the top of the "Around the NCAA."

Good for him. Not really political but given the way the Jason Collins thread went, I imagine there will be some uneducated hatred thrown towards him in this thread.

Flame away.

(Pun intended)

It has nothing to do with football. How is a person's sexual preference a prerequisite?

My thoughts as well. You all thought the Tebow circus was bad? Not sure how many teams want that around their organization for the next couple years

There is an awful lot in the nfl that is not football related that gets a ton of attention. Rex Ryan's foot fetish anyone? Interviews asking Aaron Rodgers if he likes women?

Why would he feel the need to come out? Why wouldn't he want to come out and clear the air? The truth can be very liberating and it would be nice to not have to keep it a secret. Think about this, Tom Brady can run around and be spotted with Gisele with no big moral issues or surprise. Other players can be out with their girlfriends with no issues. Now what if this dude doesn't come out and he is spotted kissing a man or holding hands with one at the mall? That would create an ugly uproar that this announcement arguably prevents. Why would this guy have to hide his significant other from the public when everyone else can do so freely?

Guess Michael Sam coming out to his teammates before the season didn't hurt the locker room. #Mizzou went from 5-7 to 12-2.
